Mobile App Notifications

I'm using the the mobile app on my iPhone 4 and I never get notifications when a thread I'm subscribed to gets updated. Before I had the problem where I would get wayyy to many notifications. For example, if someone posted something new in a thread it would send me at least 10 notifications saying "x thread has been updated" for just one thread. I turned off notifications for the app and turned it back on and now I get no notifications. However when I open the app and then close it, it will tell me how many threads have been updated next to the app icon.
Is it suppose to be like this or am I the only one experiencing this?

Yes, unfortunately, that is expected. The app's platform, Forum Runner, experienced a serious issue with their push notification infrastructure, and their incompetence left me with no other option that to disable the notifications entirely.

What about switching to Tapatalk? Seems to work quite well on RaceDepartment and it's available for both iOS and Android as well. I'm unsure about Windows Phone tho.
