Ah crap! Too late. I re-edited an old shot, but forgot about this comp. Here it is just for kicks:
Longbow, thats pretty darn impressive. How do you do it? And I think I prefer your alternative entry if I'm honest, it just seems more complete. Although a bit too much shadow and highlight I think, you've got a bit of a halo going on around the front and back of the car. But yeah, sorry I couldn't enter this week got a bit tied up on stuff.
It involved about 394 373 tries, I'll tell you that much. The car was in motion, with...help. (I also discovered the perfect surface for shots like this.) This is awfully similar to my monthly contest entry - in fact it was from the same shoot (however this is one photo, while that was three combined). I did a lot of editing on this...and I kind of like it. I had a more toned down version, but this looks more frenetic, and that's kind of what I was going for.
No worries on entering...I'm pretty tied up myself right now.
Sounds funI was trying some sort of rig setup last night which didn't go too well. Probably because my ruler wasn't flat and I was only using masking tape. What I was planning to do was attaching a ruler to the underside of the car and then attach the other end to the camera then instead of pushing the car, just move the camera in the direction you want the car to move and the car (should) swing round with it. Thats how I've heard a couple of people go about it, but I need to have a go myself. Just need to find some longer enough (and flat) rulers me thinks.
That's really cool Longbow. I might try that, I don't have any hardwood floors in my house though (just carpet), so I'd have to do it outside.
I've been trying since around 4PM today, and I haven't really achieved...well...anything really. I made a couple of rigs and none have been particularly successful. The last rig I made kinda worked, up until the point I actually started shooting, where I realised the camera was far to close to the car to actually focus, so had to remove it from the rig. The main problem I'm finding is that the rig just can't support the weight of the camera. Attaching the rig to the bottom of the car is complex too, not many of the cars I've got have flat undersides to them (asides from the cheap ones) making it a pig to attach them. The rig was made of kebab sticks which had been grouped together to add rigidity.
I'm starting to think we should create a new thread just simply about this, its obviously something we are quite interested in and trying to find a effective way of doing it is proving far more difficult than I originally suspected.
Now why have I never thought of using a rig. I just presumed everyone pushed the model and tried to pan with it.
I'm definately going to have to try this out sometime.
I've tried the push and pan method as well, but my stupid camera focuses on the BG instead of the car.
