Hey guys. I'm thinking about entering this one but I'm not too sure what the theme is? I'm confused. Can someone explain for me? Cheers.

Hmm, well - the simplest way to explain it is: a view of the subject which is half-way between a full (head-on) and a profile view.

Some examples:

I hope this helps. ^^

"The car is there, you just can't see it."

 Not exactly what I had in mind, but...it'll work.

No really, my plan was to clear off the ground and leave the snow in the BG for a kind of whited-out background, to draw more attention to the car.

Actually...I have no idea what I just said  I need more sleep!

Haha, I think it makes perfect sense to me! Though, that may just say something about my own mental state.

If I get something special and white, I might consider doing that myself. :D

Haha, well we ended up getting 6 or 7 inches. I spent the whole morning clearing off the driveway so my grandma could go get her heart medicine.
I'll have to use a shot from yesterday or shoot something inside.

Nice Car SVX. :) Whatcha take the picture on but? On top of your dog  Nah jks.

Anyway, I won't be able to get time for a shot this time round. Time for bed and This week I'm going to be chockas with Homework since starting Year 11.

Maybe next time. I picked up a Ferrari Dino and an AMG Mercedes touring car the other day so I may get them out for a shot next time the competition rolls around

Sorry, Cougar23

Equipment: Canon EOS 450D;Sigma 50mm f/1.4
Settings: ISO 100, 50mm, f/1.4, 1/200th

Aston Martin DBR9

Nice shots guys, love your shot NLxArosa works really well. And DustDriver out of your selection of shots I think I prefer the last shot the most, it sits more level with the background and just a has a more settled feel to it the orange look on the car works well with the background too.

Heh, that's alright - you don't have to apologize. ^^ I can't wait to see the M-B and the Dino. :dopey:

Having a hard time choosing which one to pick. I like the last one, but noticed earlier that the shadow in the background is in a different direction than the one on the car.

I like the last one too, it works the best. I've actually tried that before, though it didn't work out as well as that one.

Definitely one of the best photos of Hot Wheels I've seen. Very nicely done. I have both those too - though my new GT500 is a different colour.

You stole my idea. :sly:

Thanks. The Aston is looking very fine as well. :)

Thanks. :)

You guys won't believe how simple the setup was: just some sheets of A4 paper on my desk with a white wall as background. Flash (my 450D's no less) and the shallow DOF did the rest. :)

Er......right. Here we go then, for the first time. :scared:

Way better than my first entry. 👍 Funny enough, we both used the same car. :sly:

Love the reflection, it's brilliant.

Ehh, not that proud of it. But it's my first outdoor shoot in a long time. I think I'll try something else next time. Certainly can't fault the model, it's new and fabulous. :ouch:

80Y, great shot, especially for a first entry. Like Longbow said, I'm loving the reflections.

Longbow, holy crap! That is a hell of a model, and a hell of a shot. May I ask, where did you get it and how much was it?

I might enter if I can pull something together. I'm experimenting with panning :D

Heh. Thank you. I'm on a bit of model-binge lately because of something I returned from Christmas. (though I just bought a very hard to find model for...a lot)

I bought it online from a store in B.C., Canada - and it set my back $89, plus shipping ($10). It seems like a good store - and they have some great deals.

Panning is very fun. ^^

I shall hold this open for you.

Could you give us the name of the brand? I should probably look at other stuff apart from AUTOart.

Speaking of AUTOart, I have my eye on a 1964 Porsche and a Lancia Fulvia HF as well. Will hopefully get them over time, but I really need a G25 to go to uni with, as I have rFactor on the lappy, and I won't be taking my PS3.

It's a Kyosho.

AutoArt has some good stuff (those two mentioned no exception), Kyosho has lots too (such detail...the windows slide!). Harder to find, though. (The other *expensive* model I bought is also a Kyosho. In a rare colour I had my heart set on)

Heh, yeah. A G25 would be awesome. I've had mine for more than a year now, and it's been good. Can I borrow your PS3 games? :dopey:

Cool - I didn't think of Kyosho being good with models, although I have quite an expensive petrol R/C car made by them.

rFactor is useless with a keypad. Driving an F1 car means you are limited to 5th gear unless you want to spin out. And its the same with the lower powered open wheeler "training car".

As for the games....there isn't much to choose from. I've had the PS3 for a while now, and I often play it, but I have like 6 games. :dunce:

They actually make pretty decent models, some are better than others- but overall the quality seems quite good.

Oh I bet it is. Nothing like playing one of the most realistic simulators with four buttons to enhance the realism.

Heh, I don't have much either, really. I play it often too, but I really don't play a lot of different games. Plus, I have a Gamecube game (I have a Wii, sadly) my friend lent me while he goes to India for a few months to keep me busy. And also so I can finally understand when he talks about Fire Emblem for half an hour.

Hahaha yeah. Problem is, I'm stupid enough to use manual WITH a clutch. :dunce:
Entering corners is very very tetchy. And if I get the clutch wrong, it all goes to the dogs. I don't race with anyone, and sometimes the slowmo replays have an amount of epicness in them. (everything is more epic in slow mo).

That's called ambition. Like my desire to have a model car that doesn't exist.

That, is probably because it's also tetchy in real life. You are absolutely correct on that though. It makes even mistakes look much more heroic.

$89 Canadian or American? I'd much appreciate a link ;)

Panning is fun, but it is difficult for a beginner like me. It's pretty easy in profile, but it's darn hard with a 3/4 angle or straight-on. I might have to make myself another redneck (not like I am one, I'm a certified city boy ) rig for some more interesting angles.

I'll see what I can come up with :D

Oh, and - real men can't multitask
