Winner: Week 81 - Theme chosen by NISM0_SKYLINE

THEME: In their words: "Depth of Field.

...play around a little bit the DoF."

Rules:

  • Editing -Levels, Curves, Colour Balance, Brightness/Contrast, Hue/Saturation, cropping, or anything else capable in the development process or with filters and common special lenses are allowed to use in Photoshop or other image editing softwares. Other adjustments and effects are not allowed to be used in your picture. You may also use Unsharp Mask.

  • Photographs must not be a 'snapshot' but must include some composition and effect - Base the photo on a studio shoot, or even use diorama/composition to create a realistic setting (you could position the model and camera in such a way in an outside setting so that it appears to be a 'real' car)

  • No HDR shots

  • Shots must be taken between January 2009 and the present day - exceptions can be made as long as the photograph has not been shown before the competition e.g. unposted work.

  • Picture sizes - Must be no longer than 400px on the longest edge for the thumbnail image, (linked) full sized images must be no longer than 900px on the longest edge

Deadline for each week will be 10pm GMT on a Wednesday, poll will be up by 10:30 pm GMT
Voting will close on a Friday at 10:30pm GMT

The next competition will commence on the October 12th.

The trick with a point and shoot (if that's your proble), is to zoom in real far, put the model out far enough so it fits, then the camera will focus on that and everything else will blur out.

So if I'm the only one who submitted a shot, does that mean I automatically win? :dopey:

Come on, people! Get your shots posted!

Heh, I usually try to keep it an actual competition. It's definitely a possibility though. :sly:

If no one else enters, well...I don't know. If I'm not too tired I'll try to do something tomorrow or the next day.

Sorry, I missed your post.

Thanks! 👍

The best I could do. A question though, am I allowed to 'dodge' and 'burn' the wheels and exhaust? 'Cause that's what I did to make it look slightly used.

.:Final Entry:.

A slightly tracked Ferrari F430.
DMC-LS75

Sorry for the double post.

Not to be pushy, but when will the poll be put up?

Thanks.

Pretty much. We really need to kick start the Automotive & Model competitions up again! They bought a bit more activity to the sub-forum.

Oh! definitely. Count on me for submissons if you restart.

But . . . should it be weekly or fortnightly? What range of models can we use? And so on . . .

Whatever you decide, I'll be here, not so much interested in winning, but more so in getting this sub-forum active, and having the chance to view other works of art. In the end, technicalities aside, Art is a subjective, very emotional experience. We must encourage members here who may be too shy to present their photos for fear of flaming. It doesn't really matter if one thinks they"re 'good' or 'bad', right or wrong - sometimes one person's junk is another's treasure. No harm in trying.
At this point in time - I have learned that whatever we do boils down to one of two things; learning or having fun.
This will give us both.:)

Cheers,
Harry.

I would love to see the competitions start up again. If for not other reason than to get my camera in my hands again.

Provided no one minds me shooting the only model I have over and over and...

The scale doesn't matter, no.

I was going to finish these up at some point. The interest wasn't really there anymore at the time when it informally "ended". It's good to see there is renewed interest in it. Perhaps it should only be a "summer" thing. I don't know. It gets tough after a while, spending time on something no one is interested, and moving things around every week. If it gets renewed with someone else, that's fine too.

I can send you some of my more grubbier models - this way I may actually have a slim chance of winning against you, TB. LOL.

But this made me think - why limit ourselves to only models? Or automotive based themes? What about say themes like - dragonflies?
Spectators at a race.
Food. Spices. Portraits?
Rain.

In this particular part of the Forum we're all photodogs. Like-minded photodogs. Car-freaks, gaming freaks, touring and racing fanatics, family-oriented, artistically and literarily inclined (else we wouldn't be at a Forum) and also absorbed camera-buffs.
Can't let all that gear go to waste, right?

I've noticed there there have been competitions before, and highly successful ones - but they seemed to have petered out since if the competitions are split into various categories and then split further into themes, eventually we run out of themes.

If we have a single contest every fortnight (two weeks is plenty of time, though not too long to dawdle) and have the winner pick the theme for the following contest - could be any challenge they'd like to throw out - whether it be model cars, or planes, or pets, or plants, or car-parks, ball-parks, food, or race cars, this gives us a wider range of themes, and a lot longer before we start hunting around for something not done before.
Mushrooms!

Obviously this will not only bring all of us photographers together (instead of splitting us into tiny groups) but will give those who aren't good at photographing one thing a chance to win at something else.
I think TB's already won the Spice Challenge - so forget about that.

This will kickstart interest again - and it's much easier for those interested in viewing and voting on the resulting photographic mayhem to find time to come to one thread - Time is Life. And they will find it then worth that time.

TB - you have some clout around here, (never mind the obvious wisdom) so if you guide things along, I'm sure it will get off the ground - by summer we'll be chasing kites.:)

It's good to see there is renewed interest in it.

XsnipX.........

LongbowX - I guess we can take turns - maybe the winner picks the challenge, and the person with least votes host that particular session, etc; there could be various ways of setting it up. Maybe set a date for the first week - with a very general theme that will stimulate a wider audience to submit - and then go from there.

Just a few things off the top of my head - please don't mind me being pushy.:)

Regards,
Harry.

While it is admirable what you are proposing, I don't believe it to be the best solution. Although these competitions petered out - they did last much longer than the other competitions that had a more general theme (like Scaff's), which granted were monthy - and had other troubles. In this case, this competition and the Automotive ended because of few entires and little interest in this sub-forum as a whole. (Auto and Model themes/competitions I think had the most popularity since this site is car oriented. In this case, a more general theme than "dragonflies" or "crowd at an event" would be too specific a theme for some) Also what you're proposing sounds...needlessly complicated with ever-changing people hosting. Perhaps this is simply my lack of enthusiams in general talking... But it would be great if there was a way to have some kind of fun activity for this sub-forum area to get people involved, so don't take my perspective wrongly in that respect...
