My monitor is messing up. if you have xp and go to the control panel click appearance and themes, then click change the screen resolution, then click troubleshoot, then the last option there that says i cannot change my screen resolution above 640x480 thats my problem. but if i try and do what the guide tells me too i cant because it says to do this Click the Settings tab, click Advanced, and then click the Monitor tab. my problem is when i click advanced i have no tabs at all 90% of the time. then sometimes i do have the tab so if i click the monitor tab i can click the properties button so i cant change anything. if anyone knows how to help me i would greatly appreciate it.

It sounds like the drivers for your monitor are not properly installed or you don't have the most recent version. Have you tried checking the manufacturer's website?

Also, have you tried booting into safe mode to change your resolution(F5 on startup, i believe)? If that does not work, I have no idea.

That sounds very unusual for you not to see all of your tabs in the advanced pane under display settings.

Hmm, maybe take a screenshot of the window with your Print Screen button on your Keyboard and post the image here? I'm not entirely sure why it would happen.

how do i take a screen shot. i see the prnt screen button but how do i put it in here

Paste it in an image editing program after pressing print screen> save the image as a jpeg>upload it here by hitting "post reply" and using the "Attach file" field.

Make sure it is under 102 KB though.

here ya go i hope

Ewww... 640x480.

To change screen resolution go to Start > Control Panel > Display > Settings > move the slider to increase resolution > Click Apply.

Yea, fortunatly you have Win XP...

Do this: Goto Start -> Controll Panel -> System -> Advanced -> Device Manager -> Display Adapters -> and double click whatever is in there. When that opens goto the "Driver" tab and clikc "Un-Install". Its probably going to say something about restarting and if ti doesn't, restart anyways.

When you restart Win Xp should auto-maticly recognize the video card and install the drivers for it.

I'm a little rusty on Win Xp, i'm on a different computer that has 98SE on it. I believe you can figure out what i'm trying to say, though.

That sounds like a good idea. Alternately, if you have a cd from your videocard's manufacturer, use that instead and install the original drivers that came on the cd. That way you'll know if one of the updates you downloaded was corrupted.
