Monitor Problem

It started a few weeks ago but when I started my ancient computer up the monitor didn't turn on. It is one of those monitors that turn on by itself when the computer is turned on.

So the computer starts up and usually beeps after the screen turns on, but sometimes it beeps sooner than normally and nothing happens, other times there is a noticeable delay when the screen would normally click into life. The computer boots up for about thirty seconds and then automatically restarts itself. It continuously does this and eventually shuts down. The screen still isn’t on so I turn the computer back on. On good days the screen will turn on but on others like today and yesterday I had the reset the computer a heck of a lot of times for it to finally burst into life.

I hate having to reset my computer because I know it isn’t good for it when it is booting up. This morning it took twenty minutes for the screen to turn on, you can’t manually turn it on either by pressing its button. I’ve done the obvious and checked that all the leads are ok and plugged in. The screen doesn’t turn on if the computer has been turned off for long periods of time like overnight.

I’m pretty sure that something in the screen is failing. I’ve got another monitor but it needs to be unpacked and it is damn heavy so I can’t check that if it is this screen or not. The problem is getting progressively worse, the first time it happened the computer only needed to restart itself once, now it takes ages.

Anybody got any ideas?

Monitor power supply you think. I'll get try to get someone to get the monitor looked at, but that will be most probably when it completely stops working.

just be careful with the insides of the monitor. All those capacitors don't drain the electricity stored inside of them any time soon after you unplug the thing

I wouldn't dream of touching the thing myself. When it stops I'll be sure to take it into a monitor repair place.
