Thankfully they haven't given it the awful headlights from the Aero 8

Morgan has stolen the show at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance after it unveiled this: the sensational-looking Eva GT – a four-seater luxury grand tourer that will go into production at the Malvern-based sports car specialist’s factory in 2012.

The Eva GT will break new ground for Morgan by offering accommodation for four and their luggage, in a vehicle built using the firm’s unique aluminium body and chassis technologies.

Underneath the Eva GT lies a development of the same lightweight bonded aluminium chassis you’ll find in the Aeromax Supersports, and wrapped around it are superformed aluminium body panels similar to those adopted by the aircraft industry.

However, inside this new Morgan is a proper two-plus-two cabin layout and a generous boot, making it a much more practical offering than any of the Aero-series cars that have preceeded it.

“It’s intended to be capable as serving as everyday family transport as well as a luxury GT,” Charles Morgan told Autocar. “The rear seats will be comfortable for children and small adults, and should serve for occasional use for taller occupants.”

Allowing for that extra practicality, the Eva GT is longer than the 4.2-metre Aeromax, measuring 4.7-metres in length, 1.8-metres in width and 1.2-metres tall.

Just as it did for the Aero 8 and Aeromax, Morgan has gone to BMW to supply the powertrain for its new car. The Eva GT runs Munich’s 302bhp, 295lb ft twin-turbo straight six and, fitted with direct injection, it’ll make the car compatible with Euro 6-emissions regulations.

Weighing just 1250kg, the Eva GT should be capable of 62mph in around 4.5sec and 170mph flat out, but just as appealing to its owners will be its potential day-to-day fuel economy return of 40mpg and modest 200g/km CO2 emissions.

Those expecting antiquated features from the Eva GT will be surprised to find out that it will come with anti-lock brakes, electronic stability control, xenon headlights, satellite navigation and the very latest multi-stage ‘smart’ airbags as standard. There will be a choice of two gearboxes with the car: a six-speed ZF automatic or six-speed manual.

Morgan hasn’t yet set final prices for the Eva GT as “they’ll depend on demand”, proprietor Charles Morgan told us, “but you can be confident that it’ll be cheaper than the Supersports”.

Expect it to be priced somewhere between £70,000-£85,000. Deposits are already being taken for delivery in 2012.

That looks pretty neat. I'm so tired of this era of boring, raked wedge cars.

Why do they even bother with the rear seats? There shouldn't be any headroom, and it looks like you're kind of sitting on the rear axles...

Edit: Whoops, delete this. Internet was being flaky and I thought this didn't post the first time.

I likes it 👍

I'm sure a productionised version with more realistically sized headlights and door mirrors would look better.

Am i the only one who sees a similarity to Marvin the Martian in the rear end?

Not an arachnid this time?

Definite Aston/Fisker/Maser vibes with the rear end, the window line leading to the rear and the top half of the back end remind of the Aston/Fisker look, I see Maser mostly because of the lights and rear bumper. I've also never realized how much Morgan's grille shape looks like Bugatti's. They've fiddled with the proportions some compared to the Aero 8, so much so that when the images first loaded up, the Veyron was the very first car that came to mind.

I like it all though, very cool. The spine in the rear window is a nice touch 👍

I always liked the Aero 8 and Aeromax, but this thing just looks mean. I especially like the taillight design.

Thats one of the things I hate in the Pebble Beach car but absolutely love in the concept art, infact the whole rear isn't doing it for me in the car.

Bidi-bidi-bidi

Commonly know as the noise that has to be made when presented with any robot :D

I've only seen an Aeromax once or which ever was the first generation, it was drawing quite a big crowd but unfortunately for the owner everyone was laughing at the headlights :ouch:

I love the styling on the rear.

But the front, should have stood it all abit more vertical. Nothing says affluence like a car that doesn't give a pedestrian a chance.

I like it I think...love the side profile, not sure about some of the detailing ( especially the rear lights on that real car ) and I like those renderings ( apart from the wider grille ) more than the finished car as some of those details are somehow lost.
Might also have to do with liking the low-contrast two-tone paint more than silver/blackish colour of the real prototype and those multi spoke wheels in those renderings seem more suitable than those dark 6-spoke wheels in my opinion.
Overall I'm pleased to see a totally new Morgan appear ( even the Aero and Aeromax were variations of the classic Morgan theme despite having almost nothing in common as for parts ) and hope they succeed with this daring new direction.

Oh and Neal, with your username losing its Evil-tag and your avatar displaying continuously changing minimal "abstract" themes I'm wondering whether you're going through some minimalist art phase? ;)

Rear and profile views are pretty good... but from straight on, with that 2 tone paint scheme, there's too much of a gap between the bottom of the A pillar and the swage line... makes it look a bit heavy.

And isn't that a Bugatti grill on the front?

The "egg slicer" grill would still cause a bit of mischief to any oiks foolish enough to get in it's way :mischievous:

Sorry :guilty: I had a decisive moment changing my user name followed by a prolonged indecisive spell of avatar changing, I really want to go back to one I had not so long ago but that's like turning up to a party in the same dress you had on last time ;) I'll be sticking with this one for a while now...maybe...

I fail to provide decent english vocabulary to describe this thing: Striking, astonishing, phenomenal, tremendous, unique...erhm....Morgan. ;)

Just get the tail lights of the rendering, put on the real car and it's done. This doesn't look like anything that we have in production right now. I like it.

Killed it for me. I loved the rear end in the press photos.

Yeah, seriously. They messed up by making it so bubbly too. And that twotone is not doing anything for it.

Although the car looks amazing it seems like its lost its Morgan-ess for me, it looks like something Wiesmann or Fisker would create or a Phantom Drophead which has been hit by a 10 force gale. It doesnt scream the brands identity.

Round lights would have instantly solved that issue but for some crazy reason people think round lights dont look modern but they can look good if you do them right. It would have been nice to have seen atleast some structural part of this car made out of wood.

Robin.

The presented concept is a solid buck, which is a low-commitment show form that is open for critique and improvements. Seen in the back end especially, with its very two dimensional taillight graphics. The sketches' tails were fairly trendy (albeit generic, hence the Maser references) but the Pebble car is just very murky in back. I'm not a fan, and the AeroMax is in my top 10 designs in the last decade or so. This seemed to build on what I liked about the current coupe, however still needs a lot more refinement.

And I quite like the two-tone.

It's called a "false seat" and it's merely there so the car can be classified as a "family" car and the company can receive a tax break on it.
