Most exciting races you can advise

GT2 thread is dying :) How about this to live it up a bit: what races (e.g. car to choose + cup and track) would you advise to challenge for having the most fun, and probably to be tough to beat?
For a start I would personally recommend to take the "Pure sports car cup" and try to win at Laguna Seca with a stock car with less than 220 hp (maybe a 180sx or a GTS-t would be a good choice for a challenging race), or at Deep Forest with an S2000 (either stock or Spoon version, amazingly it makes no difference for some reason). That should be both incredibly fun and pretty challenging 👍

There was a race that would put a GT40 against you and that was one of the most difficult races of the game. I cant remember the race.

Historic Cup race at Rome. 295 HP limit.

I remember once taking a Lancer Rally Car (the one you win from the SSR5 enduro) to the Rome 2 Hours. Most fun I had had in a while there. Very close between the GT40(s) and me.

Geez, there were a bunch of them. One that sticks from memory is (as ty pointed out) the Historic Cup at Rome with GT40 present. I was in a 240Z with a race-mod and as much power as I could use. :scared: I had recently done a slew of Gold licenses, so my chops were ready!

At the start of the race the GT40 rammed in the back of some other Historic car! Giving me a chance to get an early lead. Didn't matter....by the backstretch, the GT40 was on my tail for the entire rest of the race.

Watching the replay now, I can see how honed my skills were back then. I'm so used to GT4 now, I doubt I'd be able to pull that kinda stuff off in GT2...not without lots of practice, that is.

There's lots of exciting races in GT2, it's how you play them that matters. Using underpowered cars is the obvious way, but sometimes I also delay my start by 30 seconds or so when my car is equal or superior to the AI. For a challenge try to win the GT All Stars (ususally I do the RRV race, challenge + 550,000 in one go :D) races using hatchback rally cars (Focus, 206, Xsara, Delta) 👍.

Tune a Lancia Y or Mitsu Mirage Asti (with no race mods) and go for the trio of Grand Touring races (~394hp at Red Rock, ~493hp at Grand Valley, ~591hp at Midfield Raceway). Try those races with under 230hp. Not easy, but do-able.

Enter a tuned car (not a race car) with 350hp or less in the GT 300 Championship.

Try a GT 300 race car in the GT 500/GT World Championship series.

Build your own rally cars from road cars, but use a car with an FR drivetrain.

Stock Corvettes in the Corvette races. Quite a toughie!

I might try this, I havn't tried a rally for a long time, so it'll be interesting to see what cars I can come up with.

I might try a Nissan 300ZX (not sure if it can have dirt tyres though) with a basic tune-up e.g. exhaust, chip, port & polish, engine balancing, then add the dirt tyres. Should be OK, but the ground clearence is quite low (for rallying) so it could be a bit of fun...

....you forgot to add the disclaimer: you might lose a substantial portion of your usual sanity.:crazy::scared:

Dont mention bouncing on ovals to me, not after my experiance in an RM Silvia...i believe you saw the outcome of that? :P

Well the ovals in GT1 & 2 are actually exciting and kinda dangerous to drive with all the bouncing involved. :D

I used to think this is because of the track, but after playing GT5P lately and comparing the Test Course to the Daytona Oval I think the bouncing in GT1 & 2 is caused more by the car setup and driving physics.

In GT1 & 2 if you raise the ride height to maximum and lower the spring rate to minimum you hardly bounce at all on the bankings, even with a fast car like a GT-One or Speed 12. On the other hand in GT5P most cars will not bounce in their stock settings but if you lower the ride height and stiffen the springs you'll get violent vibrations upon entering bankings. Not quite "bouncing", I know, but this is caused by the physics of GT5P not allowing the wheel to leave the ground much.

You can still spin like a top if you hit the wall hard at an angle though, as I discovered while driving a GT-R on Daytona :scared:.

Actually, I read somewhere that the way PD programs tracks is in sections. They lay out each section of track like giant bricks, and for some reason they couldn't get banked tracks to be smooth because the point where each section of track meets one another gets recognized as a bump. This is just something I read awhile back, so don't take it as final.

HACKr if you're out there, you could probably confirm this.

Yup. Yea, I think I really noticed the difference when track-testing the Ford GT90, GT40, and other tricky mid-engine cars. You raise the height and soften the suspension to make them not be so dangerous up on those banks. 👍

I'm forgetting but I probably saw the outcome. Refresh my memory...

I basically misread someones setup advice, and instead of putting my suspension at maximum softness I went the opposite way - my Silvia was bouncing around like a lowrider, and finally let go as i went for the pass on the outside of the final corner, and went flying round and round in circles before being viciously T-boned. Not pleasant:scared:

Yikes!

ooh, hang on, found another idea for a close race - similar to the Historic Car Cup, but this time its at the Apricot Hill enduro, where a GT40 is known to prey on the unsuspecting opponents...

Nismo 400R. A capable driver SHOULD be able to win with it; I did so once; think there's a race report around somewhere about it.

hell that was an exciting raec !!! ive been using wallriding, hitting them, eveything i could and everytime i smoked them on the straights but screwed up all the corners but then i decided to take teh slicks and then i won check it out guys !!1

Hahaha, very good AAZ :P

And ty00123, i did the race once in something similar, a Mazdaspeed RX7 Aspec, and won in the end but only because the GT40 made a pitstop RIGHT at the end. IT was a great race tho, lots of close racing.
