Most Upgradeable European Car

I'm starting GT4 for the first time (oh yes - cutting edge, me) and have my GT3 carried over cash so am starting off with £110k.

Now originally after looking around I first started buying the recommended second hand Skyline which can be upgraded to crazy spec, much like many of the other Japanese cars that got me through GT3 - Skylines, Evos, Impreza etc. Cars that last you through the ranks as you upgrade them from fairly humble beginnings up to 500+ bhp monsters.

But I just don't 'feel' these cars. I dunno, maybe it's because I'm british but I like the idea of getting through these early stages in a more familiar car. You don't see these kind of cars in the UK very often so I can't really 'relate' to them.

Anyway, cutting to the chase - what cars would be good european equivalents to the tough Japanese boys? Cars that can take Level 4 turbos and pretty much every other upgrade? Cars I can take from 200-250 bhp up to 500 plus?

The BMW M3 will be good for around 500bhp, lightweight too. But its stock power is 338bhp. Easily affordable within your 110k budget though.

And what you talking about? The UK is full of Imprezas and Evos, see them all the time. :P

'cept they all take regular trips to Halfords. :P

Most are probably unrecognizable at this point due to the questionable modifications.

I second the M3, but there's also the Lotus Elise 111S (NOT 111R, it's heavier).

Lotus Esprit and TVR Cerbera are probably the most capable machines. In my hands a fully tuned Cerbera runs neck to neck with a fully tuned R32 or R33 Skyline and totally decimates the Evos and Imprezas. The Esprit will also decimate the R34 Skyline but it's a good deal trickier to drive than anything else mentioned here and too expensive for your budget.

In short, take the Cerbera, found used in the late 90's lot. In the end you'll have a 585 bhp monster that plays with cars that have 200 bhp more and humiliates them. And it's British too. 👍

ONLY if you're buying brand new it's too expensive Greycap. My suggestion would be to get the Esprit V8 GT in the late 90's used car lot. Pay around $50k (less than 1/2 price!!) for a 40000km+ example. Oil change, then work and you'll have 500-600hp without a problem. :)

I wouldn't touch a Speed Six if you paid me!! A TVR Griffith 500 is a better deal overall than the Speed Six. Lighter, just as powerful, and can be used in a lot more events.

Mercedes SL65 AMG dang upgradable, up to 999HP with well over 1200 + LB/FT of torque.

However, it's not purchasable for 110,000Cr to begin with. :sly:
It's 80,700Cr over his budget, even in stock form!!!

Did you read the first post or just the thread title? 💡

Cheers guys, although due to the moderation (because I am new?) my post didn't appear until about 4 hours after I originally wrote it! After spending most of a lazy sunday afternoon deleting my GT4 save over and over I ended up settling on a Cerbera (british racing green of course, non of that gaudy two-tone pearlescent nonsense). Seems to be pretty damn upgradable, but not exactly the easiest to control! From the above comments, seems like I've made a reasonable choice, so thanks for confirming!

Hell, I'll probably start over again at some point as I love those early stages in GT when you're trying to get the most out of a lousy car! Lets hope the full version of GT5 when it appears gives you more time to have fun with the cheapo stuff :)

I'd say just the title.

And dang upgradable?? :odd: What the hell is dang upgradable?! Is dang short for dangleberry?? :P

I have to agree with Greycap's suggestion, and the one you got after all. I have always loved the Cerbera, and it's pretty much a fantastic car to drive on this game, gets up to very reasonable HP, with a lightweight and agile body. With a good setup and a bit of skill, it will put much more powerful cars to shame. 👍

That is correct, your first post at GTPlanet has to be approved by the moderation staff (it appears in red at the time of your first post), since we get a lot of "misplaced" new threads or forum posts.

Sometimes we're a bit slower to approve on Sundays, for a variety of reasons.

The problem I've noticed with the Cerbera is that its price and driving mannerisms can completely ruin the early game for you if you are not prepared, because it is a squirrely beast (too much power for chassis) that goes too fast for early drivers. So is the Griffith, for that matter.

I would personally suggest the BMW M Coupe. It has less power and is slower than the Cerbera (and can't be tuned as highly), but it is far more tractable and much easier to drive. Alternatively, you could try the Audi S4 '02, which is essentially the Japanese equivalent to a Lancer Evo (a bit heavier, but with a better powerband).

A couple more good alternatives can be found at Mercedes. The seemingly expensive 190 Evo II found in the Mercedes Classics car area is a deceivingly fast, incredibly well balanced car (in the right hands it can outrun stock R34s) that takes brilliantly to tuning of any kind.

I'd second the votes of those that spoke up with the name of the sainted Cerbera :bows:. In many cash-limited competitions I've seen, the Cerbera is the weapon of choice when it comes to bangs-per-buck. In the real world, she might try and kill you if you don't show enough respect but in-game ... wonderful.

I should have just about every European car on the list, might be missing a few that you can not buy.

Perfect!

The problem is, it isn't European to begin with. And the Cerbera or a second hand Esprit will still murder it when similar amounts of money are spent on the cars.

If you can tame the beast a cerbera will do you proud.

If you want fwd the clio 172 once heavily modified will fling you around the track quickly enough, the V6 Trophy once modifed is about 460 odd BHP the road going version (MK2) slightly less but I love the way either handle when pushed.
Probably not the best choice but I like them.

Even though the Ford Ka appears in the American dealer I would be more inclined to think of it as an Euro car from an American manufacturer. That little car is surprisingly fast and handles superbly when money is spent on it.

Outside of the Cerbera and Esprit, I would put odds on a Lotus Elise 190 sport or Lotus Carlton. Buth are fun to drive, and when properly built can be real monsters.
