Movie Editor...

heck, I just downloaded movie maker 2 from microsoft's site, its pretty nice, it lets you cut movies and what not, edit sound etc, no mixing tho, but it works

if you want music mixer, Kazaa, atomixmp3 thats a good one to mix music and cut. Plus go buy some movie maker off wal-mart or Office MAx, they have lots of movie maker for $20 to 100 dollar, or donwload off Kazaa.

I heard pinnacle studio 8 is one of the best video editting software.....unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to get my hands on it.....

Sweet! That's what came with my Dazzle 150. I am having a capture error, so I haven't used it yet, but I hope to get it working today. ;)

Pinnacle is decent, its taken them a while to build something worth using. Premiere is amazing, but the learning curve on it is something to take into accordance, I went to school for it so I got a leg up on it, but if I were starting off I wouldnt want to use this. To start off with, get familiar with the site doom9.net, it has TONS of great info about encoding, compressing, decompressing, and comparisons of codecs.

Windows Movie Maker is a decent way to start, it'll give you a feel of cutting and arranging data, and adding some bgm, but your encoding features are VERY limited, infact the only options you get are bit rate options, as everything is auto-encoded into .wmv format... which you'll need something like TMPG to bust up if you wish to encode it in something else.

I do not use Premiere at home, as I do not have quite the processing resources as I do at my job, so I tend to use something a little lighter but with around the same capabilities. Currently I'm using a program called Ulead MediaStudio, which I'm growing quite fond of. It doesnt have everything im used to, but its quick and effective, and it can take a bit more abuse than Premiere without throwing a temper tantrum.

It all comes down to time vs quality. For something quick, sure I'll swallow my pride and use Windows Movie Maker (actually sometimes it comes in handy, as it can be quite resiliant when working with unknown audio codecs, as most encoding utilities will barf at you), but if I have time to spare I'll crack something out with MediaStudio.

Caputre errors with Premiere are sometimes like "DV device not blah blah blah", this is a case of Premiere throwing a tantrum. You may not even get any picture when you record, and get a sockets error when trying to play back. Try changing up your color output, some capture cards cant handle what Premiere wants. If all else fails, try VirtualDubMod.

does any know how to make the vid size(screen)bigger with out messing vid the resolution in movie maker

Try a program called TMPGEnc. Record with VirtualDubMod, get your raw data as high quality as you can, then save it using a non-compressed feature inside of it. Once you have your uncompressed file, a simple change of resolution may not be disrupted, and all that can be conducted with TMPGEnc. You could use VirtDub for both, but I usually fall back on TMPGEnc due to its stability.

Oh yea, doom9.net, the site I posted about earlier, has an AWESOME VirtualDubMod FAQ/Tutorial. Click
HERE for more info.

I like to use Vegas Video, it's a bit pricey, but the power and freedom that you get is almost unmatched. However, as with Premier, Vegas Video has a pretty steep learning curve.

Im using Movie Maker 2 , but when i try to convert my Project to an mpeg, it stops around 8%, and says it has to close. Ant help?

Im using a Pinnacle Rave PCTV.

Question:

Do i have to convert my video clips before i import them to Movie Maker, or can i import them straight from the Pinnacle PctV Gallery Folder?( The Tuner Card came with a converting program called TRex, so i thought i needed to use it.)

I use Sonic Foundry Vegas. As Shadow Drifter stated, it's really pricey (anywhere between $500 and $700). However, it is a great program. I use Sonic Foundry Acid sometimes, to edit and create music, so switching over to Vegas was a breeze, due to the similiar layout, and functionality.;)
