Have any of you seen moves that you liked the first time you saw then - and then saew the later and thought 'what the hell was I thinking?!?'

Example - Forrest Gump.

When I first saw that film in 1994, I liked it - laughed at all the right spots, got sad at the right bits.

I saw it again recently, and I now hate that film. I felt horribly manipulated, and the film felt so horribly formulaic, with all the Hollywood emotion touch points all the way through.

I've probably become more cynical (!) in recent years, but I've really turned.

Now - this isn't a discussion on that film, but I was wondering if anyone else had seen a film, thought it was good, seen it some time later and just hated it?

Blade

When I first saw it, I was like "Cool! Loud, great effects, some good acting". And then when I saw it again, I noticed that the plot was rather like Swiss Cheese.

Jungle Book. When I was a kid I thought it was a fantastic film. You watch it now and you find out it's only an hour long!

I feel robbed... :(

Another was St Elmo's Fire (showing my age here  ). Saw it in the eighties - thought 'great'. See it now - utter ****e!! :P

 How can you not like Jungle Book anymore? it's a classic :D

And as for St Elmo's Fire ...  have to agree with you there :P

As for my own thoughts , i'm very fussy when it comes to movies i either like or don't like. If i'm not enjoying it within 20 mins i turn off, i can't think of a movie i once liked but now don't :)

It's not that I don't like it, I really love it. It's just the length of the film catches you out when you were 12 last time you saw it! :D

I think maturing and changing interests makes a huge difference. But are there any movies that you saw twice within a short time and realized how crappy it was the second time around?

I was very diassapointed, when I recently saw Mad Max. I thought it was wery cool when I was younger, but now.....hmm....just an average movie.

Mel Gibson looks funny though. He must be around 18 years old..

I'm a bit of a Trekkie from the days of The Next Generation. I watched it from about the second or third season and the whole time I thought it was the coolest thing on television. Toward the end of the series they really had the show refined, and everything was really nicely done.

Recently I've been regularly catching the reruns of the show - two or three a day sometimes (TNN - A Trekkies Heaven). For some reason they don't play them in order, or even stick to the same season, so you get to see the same characters/actors from several years appart. It's AMAZING how goofy that show was in the early days, and how far them came toward the end. There is even an episode that ranks up there with a midnight showing on USA (TV station noted for its horrid selection of B rated movies) with aliens exploding out of officer's chests.

Sometimes I find it hard to believe that we actually enjoyed watching that stuff. Then I see a rerun of The Final Frontier (with Spock and Kurk) and have to remember that this is what started it all.

I always thought that TNG was the peak of Star Trek. I think that Generations, and the one after it (First Contact?) were the best of the movies too.

This happens fairly regularly to me when I first see the movie in a theater with a bunch of friends. Don't know if it's the social thang or what, but I've stopped buying DVD's that I last saw in the theater, at least until I rent 'em and see if I still like them. Anyone want a half-watched copy of Tomb Raider?

Yeah, I've been through a heavy "Trekkie" phase myself before. And, The Next Generation was my favorite, too. :D

I really got into TNG, they were my first *sigh*. Deep Space Nine (DSN or DS9) bored me greatly during its first few seasons, but they saved it with the Defiant (war ship) and Dax (wooo hottie!). The action picked up, and they stole characters from TNG which brought in more viewers.

But I have to say that I enjoyed Voyager quite a bit as well. It gave them a chance to introduce countless new races and some crazy sci-fi technology. It was fun (:

Crocodile Dundee.

Well, it was about 15 years later.

Growing up is realizing that 99% of movies are terrible.

Absolutely. It doesn't matter how you remember it, when you watch it again, Linda Koslowski is not as fit as you remember!

Still, nice scenery!

Ha, The Fast and the Furious. Saw it in the theatres, loved it. Bought it on DVD, absolutely can't stand a single aspect of that movie now. Except for the old hot rod at the end. That's it. Acting stinks story stinks script stinks scenery alright, i guess, special effects were alright but...........this movie sucks.

I loved STTNG too, but DS9 was my fav out of the series'. :D

As for movies I liked initially, but then didn't like.... I think that Analyze this is the only one I can think of. Generally I don't change my mind very often, but I must have been in an extraordinarilly good mood the day I saw this. I thought it was downright hilarious, then when I rented it (first time was in the theater) I thought it was Ok, but nowhere near what I thought it was. :(

Yep, I agree. Jean Luc was just too cool for anything before or since.

[jeanluc]Mr. Worf! Where the hell is my hair?![/jeanluc]

Well, there was the Final Fantasy movie...no, I thought it was pretty mediocre the first time I saw it. :D

There are probably a dozen or so movies I saw in the eighties that I'm sure I couldn't bear to watch now. I just can't think of any titles off the top of my head.

i thought spy game woud be cool but then i rented it and it's a piece of ****, i guess it didn't have enough bullets and blood for me to like

AT update: I saw The Hitcher a couple of nights ago. The last time I saw it was about 1986 and I thought it was pretty cool.

Oh dear... Not frightening, no suspense, hollow plot. Just BAAAAAD!

I used to really really like a lot of the James Bond movies about five years ago, but seeing them again now... yeesh. Of course the Connery films are still good, but the rest of 'em afen't that much better than the books (and the Bond books are utter junk, believe me.) I can't believe I actually thought Moonraker was a good movie! :yuck:
