MP3 players and cars

I need a new radio in my car and I was thinking that maybe instead of installing this CD player I have, it might be better for me to get an MP3 player. But I don't know if any of them will somehow hook up to a car stereo. I'm thinking along the lines of a portable CD player with a cassette adapter. Is there any such thing for MP3 players.

I have an account with Dell so that's probably where I'd like to buy it from.

Yeah, there are lots of MP3 CD player head units for cars. Sony makes a good one. I believe they even have a model with a small hard drive in it.

I know the one I already have plays burned MP3 CD's because it used to be in my old car. But screwing with a bunch of CDs is such a pain.

Maybe they have a usb stick type one that you can transfer files between the car and your pc? I dunno, i'm just throwing out random ideas.

I'm just hoping that my new cars headunit has a minjack input for my hdd mp3 player.

Is that the only solution?

Unless your looking at spending tons of money, yes. I know people who have had low end computers installed in the trunk with nothing but an HD and basic components then hooked up to their stereo.

Here.

it looks like one of those headphone jacks... That would work if you hooked up an MP3 player to it, but then you gotta buy one of those too.... Plus I dont like JVC...Kenwood,alpine,pioneer are the good ones, sony blows at car stereos...AH crap late for math..

any deck with a line-in will work great. Even if it doesn't come with a line-in on the front, it's not hard to get a splitter into the back and run a wire under your dash for it. My friend did that for his iRiver after he realised that Houston's airways were too busy for him to buy an fm transmitter for it (that's your other option - an fm transmitter)

My brother just bought a DVD player and put that in his car. He also has two 5.6" screens in teh pull down sun blocking things. Works pretty well.

just use the cd player's line-in. You take a cable from your headphone out or if it has one, the line-out of the player and put it into the line-in

Why waste you time buying all this expensive crap that's stuck in a car when you probably don't drive far enough to even finish a cd?? Get this! Neuros
Transmits to the radio and there are no wires, just turn it on. You can also listen to it out side of the car too... eowww... what a concept... If you must you can buy an ipod or dell and get screwed because of the cost and addons the Neuros ALREADY has.

Here's another link to other players -->
mp3 player

the problem with transmitters is that the airways in most cities are too busy for the fm transmitters because most transmitters will only cover a range of say...80-88mhz or something like that

Eh? You can fit over 200 songs on a CD. I'll give you an entire week to list 201 songs that you "MUST HAVE". I want artist and song name. Thats one disk. Nearly 13 and a half hours of listening with no repeats. Say two hours a day and you need one CD a week. I don't see how that's so difficult.

unless your obsessively anal about how your stuff sounds in your car the transmitter works just fine for me and most of the people that I've seen in the homepage messageboards. This player covers the whole gamit of 91.1 to 104.9 as well as auto scanning for the best station to broadcast to.
