mpeg --> sound file

Is this possible? I have a media arts project coming up, and i wanna use a soundtrack that is in a video
is it possible to just convert a video file to a audio file without editing anything?

d/l virtualdub and under file, click save WAV or something like that

it keeps the original size tho ... *sigh*

If you get the MP3 codec though, some German company is giving them for free, you can save it in MP3 compression....
