MSN Messenger 6.1

You wouldn't expect it to be. A version increment like that would only really be expected to contain bug fixes.

Messenger is nothing but a security hole. Microsoft plans to disable it in the next service pack in 2004. I heard about it on Techlive on TechTV.

Unless you're dealing with Apple. Then it will cost you $130.

Ouch. Is that the Panther cost?

Still, probably best to not ignite another Mac vs PC debate.

Wasn't that the Messenger that allowed you to send a message through a network? Not MSN Messenger, the chat client thingo.

I read it somewhere, can't find the link.

I would be very surprised if Microsoft disabled the Messenger Service, it's fairly important for network administrators.

I believe it's to be defaultly set to not automatically start. The service will still exist.

No biggy. That's the way it should have been all along. What's even more sad, if your network is properly firewalled and better yet using a NAT, there is no issue here. Any decent sized network (30+ clients) should be using a NAT with private IP address. If more networks like colleges and huge corporations would do this A) IPv6 wouldn't be such a big deal, B) viruses would be less hostile, C) P2P would be less effective, D) the Internet wouldn't SUCK SO MUCH.

(:

Yeah, I got confused. Either way, MSN Messenger will never exist on my system.
