I am struggeling to connect 2 slim PS2 together via a crossed ethernet cable in order to be 4 players in GT4. I have defined one PS2 as the host. DHCP and DNS I have set to NO. I have a feeling I have to define IP adress, netmask and default router but do not know what to put in.

You can't network two 2P Battle games together to make a 4-player game. For four players, you need four PlayStation 2's. Furthermore, if you connect more than two playstations you can't use a crossover cable, you need to connect them all to a hub/router.

You will have to set an IP address for each machine, and a netmask, but you won't need to set a gateway or router or nameserver. Unless you also want to connect them to the internet, but you can't play GT4 over the internet without getting into VPN's and other pretty advanced networking stuff.

No - only cars from Arcade Mode and, even then, only those which are on your Favourites list.

Getting it all to work can be a bit tricky, but it is definitely worthwhile. The easiest way is just to hook them both up to your router, then the setup is pretty much automatic. If you have to use a crossover, or a hub, but no router, then yes you have to set everything manually on each machine. There are plenty of guides around the net for that so I won't duplicate it here. But, in the end, it is a less work just to go buy what you need to hook them all up to your router.

Right... I have one question...

Are the GT4 servers still up? as everytime I have tried to go on for and internet game and just says waiting for connection.

There never were any GT4 servers - you cannot play GT4 on the internet without an array of other things (like a router, a PC, XLink Kai installed on the PC - that kind of thing).

Hhmm, so if i have the older PS2, I would need the network converter thing or what ever they call it in that LAN thread, if I would wanna do it through a router since I see people are sayin its more simple even for a 2 ps2 connection rather then a crossover cable connection? Which would be the easiest and fastest way to play? Crossover? or LAN?

Easiest and fastest would be a crossover cable, if you don't have a switch/hub/router available.

If you want to have more than two playing, then you need to go to with a switch/router.

And yes, if you have the old PS2's, you need a network adapter for each one.
