Multiple games

How about having multiple games, like what Microsoft does with Forza and PGR. Have all the supercars go into an arcade-based game like PGR and have all production cars go into the next GT. That way, GT5 won't be clogged up with supercars that were built simply to say that those people could build one, and never intended to be raced or produced. As for trucks, vans, and rally cars, they could be placed in a game with only dirt tracks.

GT: General production cars and asphalt racecars
GTR (rally): Rally cars and off-roaders
GTS (supercars): Supercars never intended for racing or production

In this way, GT can go back to what it was to begin with: racing using production cars from dealerships instead of customs or specialty cars.

That would be a good idea. It would enable more specific modeling of each individual car. However, rather than spend $180 on three seperate games, pay $60.00 for GTHD and have 3 separate discs.

That way I have to pay $150-180 for three games instead of $50-60 for one? No thanks.

You took the words right out of my mouth. And the sheer amount of regular cars in GT3 and 4 are clear indication that GT has always been about using production cars from dealerships. Secondly, customs and specialty cars have been an integral part since the beginning, too, (racing modifaction, fantasy LM cars) and LMPs and such have been in GT since GT2. This isn't an issue of returning to its roots, because it has yet to deviate from them.

I like all the types of cars in GT. Everything. From rally, to LMP, to Kei car. I am not going to pay for 3 games when I can have all the cars in one and simply ignore the ones I don't like. Simple as that.

Definitely not.

Thats a NO incase you couldn't tell.

What's with people having these "superb" ideas about REDUCING the games content and such. The mind boggles. Forza and PGR is nothing like that, so I don't know why you said "How about having multiple games, like what Microsoft does with Forza and PGR" they're two different games made by two different gaming studio's and Forza has a lot of supercars, more than PGR3 if you hadn't noticed.

couldnt have been worded better, I think the specialty cars are what make the game great, they are goals to reach and compared to dealership cars, they really help you appreciate professional auto racing and the challenges it provides

Well, if you think that Forza and PGR were both made by Microsoft, then I suppose this answer will be good enough for you...Sony has already made three different racing sim series for the PS2 -- Gran Turismo, Race Driver, and Enthusia.

Problem solved, but remember that if anyone tries to explain the difference between a publisher, developer, and console manufacturer, just cover your ears and go "blah blah blah blah" until they walk away. If you don't, you'll be wishing for multiple games again.

Here we go, I have a prediction. I don't agree to an idea, someone comes in and blasts me like hell, and we get nowhere fast. Let's see if trends continue here with this deal.

I've always had respect for a lot of automobiles for a lot of different disciplines of motorsport. Have you thought about this idea clearly? There would be some BIG problems in regards to coming up with these extra games:

* Longer time taken to complete everything. There is a musical term known as multi-tracking. This means that each player in a band does their own part seperately, then combine all efforts into one song. And if everyone is all off-pace and everything, then it's going to be pretty crappy and take longer to get everything up to par. You're asking all of PD to come up with different games so that people don't have to have everything rolled into one game. Codemasters isn't doing that with their ToCA Race Driver series, so why should PD follow suit? You dilute a game company's effort to focus on one game instead of coming up with seperate games. This diffusion results in the next reason why this isn't going to work:

* More crucial to have each seperate game function better. You bring up the hypothetical Gran Turismo, Gran Turismo Rally, and Gran Turismo Supercars. Player, this ain't gonna work, you dig? This boat ain't gon' float. These seperate games are only going to mean the departments have to focus harder on each game. If I can drift in the corners of a rally course, does it mean I can do the same in an F1 car at Grand Valley Speedway? It becomes harder to distinguish one game from another. And you already know how picky some people can be online concerning the games they play. This is only going to be a minus to the game team.

* People will not pay $40-$50 USD for seperate games when one collective game will suffice. This is like saying that Paramount Pictures or someone will release one certain movie and have four categories in four seperate movie theaters- comedy, romance, action/adventure, and horror. You know that people only want to see one movie and not four of the same movie. Your idea will mean players will have to pay a grand total of $120 USD to $150 USD if they wanted to play each one. And if a person wanted to play a different game, they have to pay extra money to get that game. Even if you had these alternatives as expansion packs, that's still extra money. And I bet you that none of them will become "Greatest Hits" within three to five years like every other GT game.

* It becomes harder to actually distinguish which is the total game. Do you know why Gran Turismo Concept wasn't released in America? PD claims that they don't want their American buyers to get confused as to which GT is a complete game vs. other games. Gran Turismo 5 is obviously going to be the next key game for a franchise going into its Tenth Anniversary. Who wants to be confused with "GT5: Rally" and "GT5: Supercars?"

This is a dumb idea for these four reasons. If you want PD to crash and burn with their franchise with this idea, fine by me. But it will just mean that most fans won't be picking up any future GTs if they are going to screw things up with an idea like this. People talk about how PD doesn't listen to its fans. Well, this is an idea PD DOESN'T listen to or read. Or maybe they should- as an idea to make a boring day at work more humorous. I'm sure the PD folks will have a great time laughing at this silly idea. Out of 100, I'm giving this idea a negative -100%. Thanks for trying. We have wonderful parting gifts for you. Thanks for being on the show. Next contestant?

-> I think thats a very bad idea, I love GT, but I won't cough up more than USD$100 just to get a GT game, I'll sell my PS3 if that happens. :grumpy:

But you'd buy a $500+ console and then pay $50+ just for GT5 :odd:.

Thats a waste of space. Using 25gb to put 50 or maybe 100 cars. And thats just one side of the Bluray. Maybe from a business stand point it makes sense, but I don't want Cooperations stealin my money. Everybody is entitled to their opinions, but remember this is the PS3. I'm not sayin its superbly powerful, but if Sony says it is, let them prove it. Pack that disk to the max. Everybody has great ideas on this forum. But, we need to think bigger. I've read alot of posts or threads, and alot of people are still thinkin small or old. Many of yah are askin for less cars, less options, when there are 4 perfectly good GT's for you to choose from.

Don't ask for GT5 to be short, small, seperated, tonedowned, halfassed, and the same as all the other ones. This is Sony's and PD's chance to make an incredibly huge game.
