My 3 projector curved screen setup

Hi guys!

I'm Marius from Norway, I work with Warpalizer (Warp and blend software, www.warpalizer.com).

This is my personal 3 projector curved screen setup. I made this screen myself, to see how cheap I could pull off a good screen for gaming.

You can read the whole story on WSGF, I will only post some highlights here:

This was the drawing of the room, the screen and projectors:

I decided to use my office for this, the room is 3x3m. The MDF sheets I used for the screen is 4mm.
The screen cost itself is about 200 usd (!).
Projectors is ASUS B1M, they cost about 600 usd. I use a Dell Precision M6700 notebook and a old Logitech Driving Force Pro with home made adapter for OMP steering wheel and extender for shifter. :)

I hope to get some help setting up FOV for some racing games here, as I love racing games myself and play alot on my spare time.
Which games do you want to see on this screen?

Best Regards,
Marius

Well done, will continue to watch your progress..! There's a few members here running triple projection. I've also taken a look at you blog. Good work.

Impressive project. Just a question: Which game and car are you using in the last picture?

Raceroom Racing Experience. It's the free car you get in the game. I believe it's the BMW? that is for Hill Climb. Can't remember the exact model.

ps. He has the names of the games on his project site that he linked to in the OP, which he will keep up to date.

@OP:
Nice project you got there. Looking forward to seeing the progress on it all.

RaceRoom Experience, just like "LogiForce" writes. It's a amazing game, and it's free! :)

Thank you LogiForce. You are right! I will post some updates today!

I also got a hold of a Contour HD camera, so I will post some videos from first person perspective :)

Some more pictures of games, man it's really hard taking photos of this! The room is also way to small (another lens on the camera would do)

Shift 2 Unleashed:
I have to say I love both these cameras. The helmet cam feels so real, and the bumper cam is so immersive!

Live for Speed:
Good old Live for Speed, wow this game really deserves a graphics update.

How is it playing the game? I know I have a projector but there is an input lag of about 100ms which could make racing difficult as what you see on screen actually is 100ms behind the game so you have to give your inputs a bit sooner. I have not actually tried racing on in. I did try to play some Madden NFL which was ok for the most part. The only thing that stood out was the kicking meter but all the moves were a bit off. Still was cool playing with near life size players on screen.

The screen I am using for the projector is roughly 10.5 feet wide.

if you have that much lag on your projector you need to play with settings, I have an epson 8500ub home theater projector and the lag is never noticeable, but I turn all the crap off that would create lag.

"Khyber" is absolutely right, there could be input lag because the projector has to process the picture.

If this were a issue we could not use projectors for professional simulators. :)

You are right sir! 👍

No problem "daan", that's really not why I'm here. This is my personal setup, so I just want to show it off and show that there is other possibilities than 3x lcd monitors :) I will remove the price.

I tried to make a video with the contour camera today, it's hard to get it in focus. I think I have to race, and then go further back and record the replay.

Wow... Very awesome, indeed :D!

One question; don't you get dizzy after looking on the screen, or is it something one'll get used to after a while?

bro that's gangster as hell! I love it!! Maybe one day when I'm out of college and have a decent job to be able to afford this thing hahaha
Haha! :) thanks alot! It does not have to be very expensive tho, you can use a curved screen and 1 or 2 projectors also! :)

Thanks alot! :) Yes, it really is.
My girlfriend can't be in the room, she get's dizzy. My dad tried the screen, he was dizzy at first but he got used to it. Played Dirt 3 for 2 hours! hehe.
I never got dizzy..

Hi Guys, I hope your summer have been good. I've aquired a GoPro Hero3 Black camera now, to record videos of games with. What games would you like to see on this screen? :)

Nice setup. Though I feel as if you sit too far back, somewhere halfway between the drivers seat and rear seat.

Thanks alot. Its a different thing when you play, the movie on YouTube is like I said recorded with a fisheye lens. :) Tho, if you want the best experience, a multi view setup would be awesome.
