1986 Nissan King Cab SE 4x4 with a VG30 SOHC V6 which stock produced about 149 hp.
When you hear of the hardbody, you often hear of it's dependability.
My hardbody, has 160,030.8 miles. It has some half decent upgrades to it. And sure it won't win a car show, but it's going to be 29 years old this December. (It was assembled in December of '85.)
Now, the motor, the VG series, is infamous for being like a lego. Being able to swap ANY part from ANY other single cam VG engine. Say you had a carbureted VG30i. You can swap that carb for say, an '02 Exterra supercharged electronic fuel injection manifold and all you'd have to do is change the ECU, wiring harness to the ECU, get a belt from the Xterra, a distributor, and boom. (Considering the manifold you bought is complete.) Or maybe you want a turbo. You can swap the intake manifold from a Z31 300ZX and do the same thing, minus the distributor, and adding the exhaust and turbo and piping from a Z31, and you have a turbo hardbody!
And the truck, it has been used for anything you can imagine.
Drifting, Crawling, Drag Racing, Mudding, Baja, Show Trucks, Road Racing, etc.
Now on my truck, it's in TBi (Throttle Body Injection) type EFi.
It has been in a wreck, evidence being a piece of the frame being bent into the A/C condenser, steering being way off, bent structures under the panels, etc.
But all the minor issues as of now are:
High idle (due to someone jacking with the idle screw)
Oil leak. (Can be fixed with a front crankshaft oil seal)
Harmonic balancer wobble. (Someone messed up the balancer by not spending 50 cents on a crankshaft key, so it ate into the balancer)
Old sway bar bushings.
One hub not locking.
grooved and smooth brake rotors (not supposed to be smooth)
Tires that sat in one spot for 8 years.
Burning oil due to a bad PCV valve.
Faded tail light
Bad reverse light switch
Speedometer clicking and acting sporadic (need a new cable is all, which I ordered)
Fan speed number 3 not working right
A/C has no freon
Minor windshield crack
Old window wipers (which actually work fine. O.o)
LSD failing to lock correctly
Cab lamp switch not being able to turn on
Problems I have fixed and parts that have been replaced/added:
Bad clutch master cylinder
Secondary air system not functioning (removed because it was not needed)
Rotting exhaust replaced with 2.5 inch Cherry bomb kit
Added a muffler bypass for offroading (yes it has a cap for street legal purposes)
Added an exhaust tip I found in the garage
Aligned the timing (little bit advanced though. )
Fixed the steering
Pulled the frame off the condenser
replaced the TPS
replaced the cylinder head temperature sensor
Fixed the self diagnosing ECU switch to the right spot
Jerry rigged the handbrake cable that snapped
Replaced the air filter with a K&N one
replaced the crankcase breather filter
deleted all the smog control
Reconnected the cruise control vacuum line
Disconnected the air intake hose
changed from the FACTORY RADIO AND ANTENNA to a Pioneer kit. (With custom fabrication for the door speakers.)
Again, with 160,030.8 miles, and being almost 29 years old, this isn't much.
Finally, here are pictures. I'll link the sideways ones.
