Firstly, a big thanks to GTP gamers for some great ideas on how to build a decent cockpit/ stand for my DFGT Wheel.

While i do have the resources and parts (timber/ steel/ aluminium/ seats, etc) to build a complete cockpit, I simply do not have the storage space for when it's not in use.

So i needed a stand that would work effectively with the existing furniture i have, but also be compact enough to store in the cupboard in my Guest/Gaming/Guitar/Home Brewing room.

My original and temporary setup was a simple ironing board,
and this idea had the potential to be useful with a few modifications, but it was simply not heavy or stable enough, given my weight would not be supporting it (note the carton of beer for extra stability! )

So I began rummaging around in the un-used office desks at work and found a sturdy unit that would suit perfectly.
It was originally a compact computer console, but once most of the excess pieces were removed it still had a nice, heavy and solid steel frame, a flat platform on the top and plenty of cross-support to keep it rigid.

i simply added a tilted platform for the pedals, and some in-fill on it's base for both, extra weight (lower CoG) and to minimise wear on the carpet.
Some flexible conduit and zip-ties secure the cables in place nicely

all up cost was $0.
But a desk/ table like this could easily be picked up very cheaply from a junk sale/ auction/ second-hand store.

the picture up there shows the furniture it needed to be used with

the below picture shows where my AV setup is hidden in behind the blue cupboard doors aswell
