My cockpit/recliner

I've been wanting to build a cockpit for a while now and after reading ericleroi's thread about his cockpit build I finally got an idea of what I wanted. My main goal was to build a cockpit that served a dual purpose. When not playing GT5 I wanted to use the seat of the cockpit as a recliner and then store the front half in a closet out of view.

I originally thought I'd knock out the setup in half a day but it ended up being about two full days. Big thanks go out to ericleroi! Without your diagrams as a guide it probably would have taken much longer!

Here are a few pictures of build in progress

And here is the end result

I used two bolts with wing nuts to secure the cockpit, the seat and shifter mount. This way the shifter mount can be moved to either side and the front half can be disconnected quickly.

After two full days of intense measuring and cutting it's time to sit back and relax with an ice cold beer.

Wow!!!! 2 days to build, that's incredible!! It looks excellent and I bet even even better in real life than in the pictures, I know mine does. It looks like you have a really good finish on the paintwork as well. Any tips to share?

I'm really interested in the design you have for the shifter. Any chance you could post some details of that?

I know what you mean about the dual purpose, I use just my seat section when not using to pod for racing.

Hope your work inspires other's to make one.
