G25 added, So again slight modifcation to cocpit, added shifter and re done pedal base. Post

Got a new seat cover.

Feburary 2007.
Work HAD to sell these cockpits (were over 1 year old.. I already sold 2 hehe and we had 1 left still.. got a new boss and he put a ridicous price on it and i couldnt pass it up) and well, i decided to buy it... I got it for $200 AUD ($157 USD, 81 pounds) RRP is about $1100 ($868 USD, 444 Pounds) The cockpit is perfect for a DFP but sadly G25's pedals are too large and well it has no space for a shifter.. So why did i buy it? This is why Half the recommended Retail Price of the seat alone... So now i just gotta swap the seats with the one in my current home made cockpit and i will have a cockpit for PC with my G25 and that seat, then the "gamers" cockpit for the PS2 with my DFP and then my current cockpit seat. Just gotta figure out how to mount the seats..

Pics of the one i got, Only i just got the bare essentials. No speakers, Wheel, monitor. Just the frame and seat. And the Frame is a nice silver.

Then just tonight i did this

Well after 2hrs in the garage (design, build) and a trip to the local Hardware house (bunnings for some bolts) and a trip 2 houses down for the wood ( ) Cockpit Version V? (I think thats about what we upto) is complete. Let me warn you though, Looks has always come 2nd to feel and effect. It may not be the best looking or the most refined cockpit you will see but i belive once you sit in it (and your my size) then it will be one of the best around.

though he may never read this, i really want to thank Dad for all his help with this cockpit, without him it simply wouldnt exist. 👍

Next step is to transfer my old seat onto the new cockpit, fit my DFP then its all set to be a PS2 only cockpit!. This step however is probably a week away as I still need to figure out how.. :grumpy:

Feburary 2008.

Not much has changed but here is the most recent pic of the setup!

Great progression on your cockpit Dion, very nice indeed. I just got GT Legends so maybe I'll see you on there sometime...maybe if I"m up late enough, eh? lol. Keep up the good work, Curtis says you've been getting better and better at GTL, gl dude!

love the setup man, god i want one of those setup's!!! my "cockpit" is so crap, i had made it a bit big, so chopped it up and made it a bit lower but now it's to small and my nees hit the little knobley thing's(clamps lol) of my G25. plus i didn't realize the seat's i bought(2 front buckety seat's out of a vr4 evo 0) didn't come with rail's so i have to be up against the wall:(

time for a revision, your setup and just watching initial d serie's 1-2 and the movie have inspired me lol(plus i'm sick of reading after all those sub-title's, so i can't really play games anymore and it will help me with my exam's....somehow)

P.S sorry for bringing this back:(

Thanks for the compliments. BTW dont worry about bringing this back. Thats what i want.

I havnt changed my setup since the above posts but i have certanily spent countless hours in it. A lot of time actually

lol, but when you finish something like this it's WELL worth the effort, even when i finished myn i could not stop playing even nfs carbon, just becouse of the clutch and h-gate on ps2 lol. Hope there's some more game's coming out with full G25 support? or 360 support, that would be WAY better.

Nice. Ive got a lemans seat. Which i also picked up for a bargain at $150nz. Manaco was my second shape choice.
You really dont realise the time and effort that goes into making something like this. Especially when your trying to cut cost down. My total spent keeps rising. Im trying to work out shifter placement at the moment. Ill probably have mine very similar to that only slightly closer and lower.
How do you find getting in. I made a wood mokup for mine but everyone steps on the seat to get in, which i dont like with a brand new race seat :(

well mine is diconnected from the seat, i just push it forward, sit down then pull it back so that the side's of the seat overlap over it and hold it down.

Spent so much time in this and ive never gotten sore or uncomfortable! its just fantastic.

Looks great!

That seat looks the business.

However, I have to ask.

Why did you take the seat off the metal cockpit? Was that cockpit not comfortable, adjustable enough?

The metal one wouldnt fit the G25 Pedals nor the shifter. Since i cant weild the only option was to modify the wooden one. Sadly it lost its adjustability so if another other than 5'6 165cm Dion hops in its probably gonna be uncomfortable, but since im the only one who plays it 98% of the time it doesnt matter. Plus its not looking like i will be growing anytime soon.

Sounds good. I am either buying an Obutto Ozone racing cockpit, or building a cockpit out of wood. I have the seat already, and the G25 will be arriving next month. I am still up in the air as to which one I will go with.

If you don't mind, how much money (roughly) did (or would) you spend on the wood? I'm trying to figure out which option is more cost effective.

Oh, I almost forgot........ Buttkicker? I didn't see one, but it's hard to see depending on where you might have mounted it.

Was a lot of housing construction going on around my area plus we our selves were building a house, so i went to the builders and asked if i can scrounge through the off cut bin and managed to find a few good lengths of timber in their. Didnt pay a cent.

what you mean by buttkicker?

A lot of cockpit users use them to help simulate the feeling of going over rumble strips, the base from the engine, etc...

Oh, Lookin' good Bevins!

;)

Fryz - you prefer the shifter on the left side? Great looking cockpit, btw. 👍

And that one bevins posted looks really good too, would like to see a finished version of it.

IT is still a work in progress. Here it is. I still have to adjust the monitors. The brackets I welded up were a pain to get aligned especially by myself.

Amazing work there bevins 👍 How do you get the screens to split the view like that? I'd like to try that on mine someday.

You setup looks great!

i picked up one of the 'gamers cockpits' yesterday, but it was only after i got it home that i noticed the G25 pedals wouldn't fit! so I've pulled it apart to modify the shelf to fit the shifter and also lower and extend the foot stand for the pedals - hopefully it shouldn't be too difficult - will post pictures once its all back together!

after two full days, i've finally finished modifying my 'Gamers cockpit'. As per my previous post, the G25 pedals didn't fit, and the shelf didn't have room to accommodate the shifter.

closer inspection saw that the actual shelf was on a negative incline (which made the wheel too uncomfortable to hold), and the pedal stand was too steep.

extensive modifications to rectify the above ensued over the weekend, and a good lick of black paint (it was previously silver) finished it all off.

Hope you like it :)

that is one AWESOME setup!!!.... I like the TV too...very sweet man, good work!!!!

Got a new TV...
Samsung 1080p TV running 1920x1080 resolution... via DVI - HDMI cable...

What size TV is that ?

I have been looking at getting a cockpit - obutto / Playseat or Rino Seat.

I intend to upgrade my PC and use one cockpit for PC (iRacing, RFactor, GTR Evo), PS3 (GT5p) and Xbox 360 (Race Pro / Forza 2).

I will initially be using a G25 and pedals but have a Fanatec Turbo S on order and Clubsport pedals.

Trying to work out whether to get a 24"+ PC Monitor - also seen a decent 28" Hanns-G monitor. However, tempted to get a 1080p 40" LCD or thereabouts that is decent for PC use etc.

I can always move the "cockpit" nearer or further away with a big screen although I also quite like the idea of a mounted screen.

Trying to get an idea of how big a screen will look in a particular set-up.

Cheers

Hey, small fryz... I've seen your cockpit before, and I think it's one of the most practical, home-made cockpits... plus, it doesn't look too expensive to make. Is there any way at all that you could more detailed pictures with measurements and angles? I have the opportunity to buy a used bucket seat for around $100 USD and I'd still have some money left to have this made. Thanks in advance! =)

Honestly the way i made it. I had no measurements to go on and i cant build stuff very well but i had the picture in my mind. All i did was mount the seat 1st then have rough cuts setup to suit my frame then once in the right position i bolted it together or made the final cuts. I think this would be your best way, just start with the seat then add the height of the wheel and the position you like it, making sure your feet fit under, then fit the pedal base and find where it fits well then just put in teh final screws. As you can see its changed over time as ive had more thoughts and changed gear to become what it is now. Sadly as it is it only fits people around my size (5'6) perfectly and with no adjusting seat (i havnt bothered to fix that yet) it means its absoulutly perfect for me but useless for others lol.

Also my TV is a 32"

Looks great, SF!

I will be building mine in a similar fashion (although, with an adjustable seat).

Looks very ergonomic.

Any paint in it's future?

;)

@beat boy: hey i really like that set up. how much was it and where did you get it? i just emailed them asking some questions about it. my problem is that i dont need the seat, i need the wheel stand part of it only. the seat does look nice though...
