I had a spare Gen 1 PSP lying about that hardly, if ever, gets used. So for a few months now I've been using it as a digital dash for GTR2 and thought I'd share some pictures and video of my basic setup.
And a video
(appologies for the aspect ratio, the video was taken in portrait on my iphone)
Even though I have a degree in industrial design, I'm too busy (and lazy) to spend time making complex mods to my cockpit (there's so much I would love to do!), so the simplicity of this mod was right up my ally. As I usually race in cockpit, there's not much need for it when the ingame car has a Motec display, but some don't and then it's great. I primarily use it to keep track of tire temps at a glance.
The 'How-to' bit:
The software being used is called the TakaTec Sim Monitor, and can be found here (very interesting website/links BTW)
To run the software on my PSP, I'm using pspdisp to emulate my secondary PC monitor.
The PSP is mounted on a cheap-as-chips charger stand I found on eBay, and using some modelling clay I fabricated a couple of contoured mounts to get it facing the right angle. It's all held together with strong velcro so no permanent mods need to be made to the G25 or PSP.
Just for fun:
I played around with another mounting setup after looking at the PSP's shape and seeing how perfect it was with it's scalloped corners. I didn't like it as it was too close for me, but fun nontheless.
Video
It's held on with a small strip of velcro on the top of the wheel hub, and the top is a friction fit. As the video shows, it's definitely usable, but not really too strong.
