A while ago, I bought a Fanatec Carrera with the Rennsport wheel Stand and it recently came in the mail. After about a week of using it, I figured to put in my own 2 cents about it.
STAND
If there is one word I could use to describe the wheel stand, it would be sturdy. I swear this thing will not budge. The all metal construction helps with the sturdy feel and gives it some weight. This came with the pedal stopper and the shifter plate for the G25/7. I don't need the shifter plate, so that stayed in the box. I tried the pedal set with and without the pedal stopper, and it obviously made a huge difference.
If you picked up the screwdriver before opening the box, put it back. this come with bolts with a hexagon pattern and the appropriately sized hex keys. Also, the adjust ability on this stand is great. It folds up to put it in the closet or wherever you want. Unlike it's competitor, the wheel stand pro, this stays in place via a knob that you screw in. To adjust the height, you have to loosen two hex screws on the pole connecting the wheel base to the bottom. you do this using the smaller hex key. there's even a storage area for it on the stand. the wheel base pivots up and down for extra adjust ability.
Overall, I can not say enough good things about this stand. The quality and construction is amazing and the adjust ability make it great for everyone. Even if you don't have a fanatec wheel, I highly recommend this product.
WHEEL
The wheel looks like the other Porsche wheels in fanatec's lineup. To cut cost's the leather on the wheel was replaced by rubber and the wheel has gears instead of a belt. However, this means this is packaged as a complete set, including a H shifter and the pedals. The wheel isn't the quietest thing in the world, but is definitely quieter than my old DFGT. the adjustment you can make to the wheel really change how the wheel behaves. Say for instance, you just got done drifting and went to do a time trial and you notice the wheel is wobbly. it is as simple as pausing the game, going into the wheel's menu, and making the changes. In addition, we all know that the logitech wheels have horrible deadzones. In the fanatec, you can get rid of it. This wheel drive's like a dream. The gears help me make more precise turns, since you can feel the gears clicking. the rubber also provides great grip, for when you're really in the zone. the paddles are small buttons, like the DFGT, but you can get extensions if you don't like that. Of course, the wheel works with the pc and ps3.
The shifter is held on to the wheel by two metal rods. the installation of the rods isn't as simple as shoving them in. there are two screws you have to undo with preferably a large coin, you slide the rods on and re tighten the screws. The shifter just slides on to the rods. When connected, They aren't the most stable things in the world, as they move when you shift. Even though they move, you don't feel it move. One thing I want to add is that this is my first time ever using a H-pattern shifter. I thought I would be hitting the gate all the time, but I was moving it like a pro. As everyone knows, the shifter is loud. people even crack it open just to make it quieter. It is loud, but it's not unbearable.
Before it came, I read about the problems with the brake pedal. I think it's because fanatec made the brake way too stiff. What feels like 100% is really about 50% in the game. Besides that, it get's the job done, to say the least. The gas pedal is good and bad. One one hand, it's about as resistant as pudding and on the other hand, I find it much easier to modulate than the DFGT gas. The clutch is the best out of the bunch. Not to stiff or too soft, just right.
CONCLUSION
This is probably the best budget wheel out there. The next closest wheel to have these features is the G27, which costs twice as much and doesn't have the in-wheel adjustments. Not to mention that the Rennsport stand was included for around $222 including shipping. In the end, I really like this wheel and would easily recommend it to anyone on a budget.
