Hey guys! This forum and a couple other's caught my eye while I was browsing cockpit idea's.. Over the past few weeks I have been taking note's off of peoples cockpits and trying to design one myself.. Im a bit sick of always having my G25 on my computer desk, it takes up quite a lot of space and gets annoying to move around all the time..

Here is my current setup, without the G25..

Intel Core i5-2400 CPU @ 3.10GHz
Gigabyte Z68AP-D3
Corsair Vengeance DDR3 ram 2x4GB
Western Digital Caviar black 1.5TB HD
Western Digital My book studio 1TB X-HD
AMD Radeon HD 6770 1GB
Logitech E2060 Monitor
Razer Lycosa Keyboard
Cooler Master Inferno mouse
NZXT Phantom 410 Tower

With G25..

I plan to do some mods to the G25, Inspired by Chilicoke as many are.. Shifter mod, Maybe replacing g25 wheel with another 270mm aftermarket wheel, removing paddle shifters, Ebrake, reverse mounted pedals... Its all in my mind, hopefully one day I can have a setup as clean as some of the ones I have seen floating around the web but untill then this will have to do..
I will post more pics within the next few days once I start to quire items for my build.. Keep checking up for progress! Thanks!

[Please ignore the dirt marks on the images, my dslr's sensor is dirty :( ]

Today i removed the shifters behind the wheel. I am no longer bothered by those useless paddels and now it has a cleaner look, next up is the shifter mod.. I will probably post a few pictures of that when its all set and done.
I will be doing quite a few mods!

Anyways here is a few pics of the G25 :)

Since my last post quite some progress has been made, about a day or two before my trip to Home Depot I spent a night drawing and measuring out the pieces on cardboard to see if I wanted to change anything before the real build began..

Measuring the heigh of the wheel stand/width/angles.. ( Yes, I am aware that my room has become a total mess of wires)

Then I made my way out to Home Depot and grabbed myself a sheet of plywood, four 2x2's, (Only came in 4 packs) 12 m6x10 bolts, washers and some rubber O's for the shifter mod.. My total price came to $56.70, not bad..

As soon as I got home I got my tools ready..

Then started marking out the final cuts on the wood..

Sadly, since then its been raining a bad storm outside so I have not had a chance to cut the wood.. But as soon as it stops raining im going to cut like a madman. I know it may not look like much right now but I can almost promise you that once it is done the majority of you will like it and hopefully some of you will be inspired off my design to make your own rig for a good price, you do not even need any wood work skills to make this because if you have the dimensions for each piece they can cut it free of charge when you purchase the plywood.. I will keep you posted when it stops raining! :)

I finally had the chance to cut the wood and told myself NO, lets redesign it..

I spent another night drawing on the otherside of the marked wood and finally came up with a design im happy with.. Its based off of a few other rigs Ive seen floating around.. Here's what I came up with..

It is still a WIP, I need to paint it.. get myself a bucket seat then cut off the piece of plywood supporting my ghetto seat and build a seat support inthere with proper angles.. I have to make a screen holder that can bolt/screw on.. Build a real centre console with a handbrake that is fully functional..Till then this will do just fine, Im loving the reverse mounted pedals.. Im going to be adding more and more to this and hope to keep you all posted with progress.

Happy building!

Very nice! Very similar to a lot of rights but that's a good thing. I bet it is super sturdy!

Thanks! I tried to make it similar but a touch of my own style, Still going to be adding to it over time and changing some things.. It is VERY sturdy, just goes to show what you can accomplish with 1 8x4 sheet of plywood :)

That is very nice. I like the ghetto seat. I can't wait to see the finished build.

Thanks! The seat may or may not remain the same for a while.. Depending on my funds and the price of a bucket seat I may grab one soon and get cutting again!

That's awesome man, it's so much better is having a good driving position, I'm sure you will notice your driving will improve.

Great start to your Sim Rig and racing career. Now enjoy it for a while and after a couple months or so you will start to envision Rig #2 and what improvements you would like. I am on Rig #3 ATM which can be viewed via my Sig.

Thanks! Well I'm just glad I can drive one way or another, insurance is way to expensive for me to afford :(

Thanks, I'm already thinking of some things to add and starting to get basic idea's for number two, slowly this will evolve :)

That's the way to do it, slowly. Try PC racers if you haven't already, games like iRacing, rFactor and the Sim bin titles. These games will give you a slightly different insight from console games and will reflect the outcome of your next rig.

I almost enjoy building rigs and watching other Rigs evolve. It's almost as fun as racing. :)

I play LFS and thats about it, I'm not so much into racing, more of a drifting person :) Agreed, I watched quite a few builds before i started mine.

^^^Same here. Building is half the fun.
:)

I spend more time on dreaming and working on my rig/setup than I do racing..........all part of the sim racers lifestyle :)
yup, this is just the beginning

AWESOME JOB!!!!! Also you have a very nice pc gaming setup!
Thanks, more to come soon!

I plan to build number 2 not to long from now, but I want to put a real dash and centre conole on it, making it clean looking and light.

UPDATE!!

I have gathered some Idea's and materials and may start building #2 soon, I work 11 hour days so I need to find some free time on the weekends!

Have you started building the second rig? I'm curious to see how you do it with the dash. My diy rig with a real dash is almost ready for painting. Instead of invading your tread I'll make my own some time soon. Would be nice to compare and learn from each other :)
