My journey to SS

I just thought I'd relay my thoughts having just reached SS tonight, as it's something of which I'm proud and have worked hard to achieve. I class myself as reasonably paced but could do much better. Having started a good few seconds behind the top guys, I have practiced and raced as often as time has allowed. 200 or so races later and I'm still not with the aliens by any stretch, but my quali time at Brands today was at least respectable, with a 1:28.9xx. I have had some truly epic races which have been up there with the best "gaming" experiences I can recall - following the next car at the absolute limit for an entire race, bumper to bumper convoys with no margin for error, fair overtakes, nervous laps out in front. I have also had some of the worst, things which made me want to go back to Project Cars or Assetto - rammers, idiotic driving, questionable overtakes, being forced onto the turf, salty drivers. One thing I can safely say is that while it doesn't have the best physics or content, when it works, no other racing sim/game on console can come anywhere close to replicating the online experience. Reaching SS has been a triumph and a chore, but certainly never a bore. It may come easier to others and I may never contest the top 10 leaderboards consistently, but I'm going to give it a damn good shot from here!

Congratulations and well done!
I agree with your sentiments. The racing can be incredible in some races which can make you happy to concede a position in a well fought battle. Sometimes it's not... But that's just like life.

Haha as said it took me longer than others! Also, this wasn't aimed at bragging to those who aren't DR S yet, it was to relay that it is something I am happy with achieving after working hard to get my times down and also to talk about the game and experience as a whole

Congratulations!

Are you using a wheel or DS4? Also, which car did you use on yesterdays Brands Hatch daily?
Thanks! Using a wheel, had a G29 and moved to a T300 Alcantara and 60" TV a few weeks ago! I was running the M4 like a sheep, but I find it suits my driving style. I love the GTR Gr4 around Brands but PD nerfed it too much and it's not quick enough compared to the M4 and TT.

How many DR pts do you have @banckzy?

tbh I see you guys talk about it all the time and I'm not sure how many I have? how do I see this?

When I look on the life log or whatever its called, I can see the bar on B rating is almost full so I must be approaching A...

Credit to the creator... it's a brilliant tool. I think it brings much more reality rather than the stupid slider bar on the Life Log....

I think 30000 looking at the charts, which is a long way to go given how happy I was when I got on to 14000 :(

60"!!! You are not messing about, that must be an experience itself. Talk about sheep I am also still running the Megane! But I have tested the M4 and it's a very good car especially with the TwinPower with the balance of the car.

Couldn't agree more with the GTR dude. I feel there is a bias EU > Japanese

I literally couldn't pass it up - I could have bought a budget 55" Samsung or LG for 800 or more with an IPS panel, or a 60" Hisense for 650 with a VA panel. I was dubious at the price, but the reviews were positive and I am glad I took a punt - very impressed overall. The immersion with it just behind the wheel is immense! It's not a patch on the OLED downstairs but the missus wouldn't like me taking that off the wall into the back room!

I’m on the same journey. Things started out real slow and now at times it can be frustrating entering lobby after lobby against aliens knowing they’re faster by a second a lap at least. But I think I appreciate their level of skill more now I’m racing with them. I qualified fourth in the manufacturers cup last night and one guy said ‘great, in a lobby with 4 of the fastest guys in the game’ so I must be doing something right. Not far off S rank myself and when that day comes it will be a very proud moment joining the top 500 or so drivers in the world... well done on achieving it already. It really does require time, effort, skill, patience and effort.

Keep plugging away! It only means as much as you make it mean, but for me it's a good way to benchmark my skill level against everybody else and has reassured me that I'm improving! Trouble is, so is everybody else! The pressure is not helped tonight by my one race at suzuka kicking me out on lap 1 - 1300 points down the drain and not even my fault :-(

@IAMDOODLEBUG
WoW
Tried not to do it, but i have to say this now.
It was a pleasure to read this

I'm still learning english (i'll do that as long i'll live)
But as said before: "Nice write up"

And a stupid (tuned) quote by memory (from James May):
"i can (not) not conceive of the mind of a man who would look at that and think that was the right way to do it
it was (not) done with a knife and fork by the Council, not neat, not square, waste of material, left sharp edges and all bent."

Nice setup man. I'm running a T300 GT edition wheel with a 55 inch tv(as of a few weeks ago) and my performances have improved to up to almost Dr b And Sr s

Good work! I was using a 43" TV before the upgrade and I found I had to really concentrate to look at/into apexes, often finding myself just "looking" at the TV. A larger TV right behind the wheel means it fills most of the periphal and you pretty much have to look at apexes, massive help in consistency!

I had a 42 inch tv and a T150 before my upgrade. So not really sure if it's the tv or the wheel out both that have helped
