I decided to write a report on my findings of online racing.
After having the game for 3 months I decided I would try online racing. For the past few nights I have gone on and found it to be pretty interesting. When first going into the lobby I found that a majority of the races are either drag races or runs on SS7, so finding people racing on a real track that requires skill can sometime take a while. I decided to try SS7 for a bit, it was fun but it's mostly about who has the fastest car and who is in the best position to draft. Some a** clown decided it would be funny to go backwords to which he was yelled at by everyone and ended up leaving. After that I found a normal room where people were racing some of the road courses. Now I am by no means a great driver... sometimes i miss my turn and breaking points but I can still keep it on the track. A majority of people racing online really have no clue, I don't know how many time I was executing good breaking and about to get a good clean in and out only to have someone slam into the back of me. Another problem is the PP system, 2 cars can be the same PP but even with some moderate tuning I was still having cars pull away from me. The first night was fun and it was good to race something besides AI.
For the second night of racing I went down to Wal Mart and purchased a $20 bluetooth headset. This made communicating with others much easier. Again about half the races were Drags... you would think PD would pick up on this and add a drag strip since it seems to be so popular. I found a room with a guy and his friend and racing with him was quite enjoyable, he was a good driver and we had some clean races. It was funny when some kid came in and said: "Lets race the Red Bull, I wanna race something fast." He left crying because we started the race without him. After a few hours I decided to try some drag racing. I didn't really get what they were doing but it had something to do with a ghost car, after running a few times I was kicked out without explanation. After that I tried some Nascar at Daytona in a room named dirty racing, I thought that would be fun but there were only three of us but someone had a bad connection because their cars would jump all around he track. This made dirty racing hard and almost impossible to slam into another car. I left the room only to receive a message from one of the racers in the dirty Nascar room. It was from jacob8151996 (which I''m guessing is the little punks birthdate) calling me a p****. I sent him a message back telling him he had some balls sending me a message over the internet. We went back and forth with a few more messages and then I blocked him. I finished up the night with some Shuffle racing, which turned out to be a lot of fun.
I'll go on tonight and see what else I can find, the online racing can definatly be fun if you know where to look, avoiding d-bags can be tricky but finding a good room makes for some good racing. If you've gotten this far thanks for reading my long winded review.

This doesn't sound like an online racing review, more like a personal rant against players you had unpleasant experiences with. You joined a drag racing room and a 'dirty' NASCAR room so what did you expect? Drag racing rooms, especially in SSR7 have unprofessional players that tend to trash talk a lot. Dirty NASCAR rooms, well 'dirty' is already self-explanatory.

Do yourself a favor and find real online racing rooms out there. In fact, join a league or something. There are plenty of them here in GTPlanet. Stop joining those pathetic drag racing rooms or dirty NASCAR rooms. Find yourself an organized drag racing room with a fair host and clean NASCAR rooms. Or join PP-restricted rooms, shuffle races, and other racing disciplines (Le Mans, Super GT, street racing, etc.)

Come back later with a real online experience review.

I find the best rooms for racing are the ones that are specific such as car type like super gt rooms or touring cars or anything along those lines. Sometimes it is hard to find a good clean racing room though.

The best room tend to have good restrictions. Earlier on I hosted a room where we started out with 350BHP/950KG/Sport Mediums/No aids and had some great fun, but I wasn't enjoying the fact it was all about the race/rally cars to win so I changed format. I decided to do one-make races an started off with the TVR Tamora on sport mediums and let the winner of the race pick the next restrictions and the track goes to a vote.
We did the Subaru Impreza with sport hards on Autimn Ring, the Elise 111R with sport hards on Cote d'Azure and then Suzuki Swift with comfort soft on Cape Ring Inside where the order of the top 3 wasn't decided until the final chicane and we finished within a second of each other.

I do have quite a lot of people in my friends list for online racing and invited them but the restrictions invited the clean drivers, even if some of them were slow...

The majority of the rooms online are not drag racing and SS7. Sure, there are a lot of them at times but even if you add drifting to it, the majority are road racing of some sort on other tracks, sorry. It's nowhere near as bad as NFS Underground 2 got late in it's life where literally 8 out of 10 rooms were just for jumping out of the track and playing tag or some other non-racing game out around the city.

It can be tough to find the right room sometimes, but sometimes you have no problem. It's just part of online gaming. It can be irritating when it doesn't work out but it's great fun in a decent room with a minimum of morons. A lot of people recommend filtering your search to rooms with SRF disallowed to help weed out some of the wastes of time.

I found some good ones tonight. The best was the dirt track races with pickup trucks... definitely a good time!

Look for rooms with aids switched off as well, tends to attract better drivers. You do get the people who whine and beg for them, but they leave after finding out they spin at every corner with no SRF :)

Can take a while to find a decent room but it's worth it, plus you could also try making your own one!
