A lot of those are nice. I'm no photo expert, but it seems like sometimes the composition isn't exactly great. I'm nitpicking here, but the landscape ones (Rockface and Stalks) seemed drab. The Flowers are great. The topic is in focus and the background is just slightly out.

What really makes a difference is the sunlight. I'm betting a nice sunny day, the stalks image would be beautiful. The Rock face shots would be spectacular.

Deadtree doesn't compose well, but Deadtree2 is great. The image I get from Deadtree2 is prtrayed even further by the lack of sunshine. It gives the feeling of defeat. The tree has died, the background is slipping from green pasture to swamp land. The water is stagnant. Each piece of the compostion fits together. Deadtree wants to give the image of standing strong in the face of adversity. As bad as everything gets around it, it still stands tall and strong.

I know, I'm picking out that the sun wasn't out on that day, and it's tough to schedule a day when the sun is shining. But if you could retake those images on a sunny day, they'd be spectacular. Worthy of printing at large scale, framing and printing.

Just a further update on my Wife and her new DigiRebel. She's managed (In less than a week) to shoot over 500 images of the birds, the Fishtanks, and a trip to the beach.

I'm with you though, sunlight would of helped a lot. Right now isn't the best time to take pictures of these trees. We haven't had any good days for a while, the sky has been so dead.

I also see what your saying about some things not composing so well. Somtimes it seems as if I zoomed out too much and the picture is too busy.

Holy crap! I just passed the 300 mark, and a lot of those pictures were just messing around taking pictures of discs or other items I sold on eBay. Any good ones we should see?

Yes, indeed I do.

This was shot from about 5 feet away. It's been reduced for upload. The original shot you could zoom in and see the folds in the skin on his face. Absolutely incredible.

I'll upload a few fish images tomorrow, that are even better.

Very nice picture!

Holy crap! Five feet! What sort lense are you using? Not the standard EFS 18-55mm that comes in the kit, right?

I'll go with what Der Alta said. Most of your pics have the potential to be amazing but the lack of sunlight makes them a bit drab.

I'm envious though, I wish I had a DSLR rather to go with my current point & click :P

Nope, that image was shot with a 75-300mm lense. If you've got the cash around, invest in one (I think ours was $250). We actually had this lense for the 35mm Rebel.

These images were shot with that lense. I've got some at home (am posting from the office) that were shot with the standard lense.

large fish image. It's a bit out of focus after I looked closely at it. But still very nice.

This is an awesome camera and simply amazing. On the hi-res image of the fish, you can zoom in and count the scales around his eye.

Thanks again for recommending this camera. We were pretty well set on getting it, but seeing your images sealed the deal. I am bummed about it though, as Dell has it on sale for $720 this week, and I paid $850 for it two weeks ago :(

Thanks for the feedback.

What sort of of point-and-shoot camera do you have? Looking at your pictures, they're very, very good, and not just the technical aspects (like focus, resolution, etc.) of 'em. You definatly have a good eye for pictures.

The place I bought my camera from (Mike's Camera) sells those for $200. Its been on my want list for quite some time, but I've been too busy blowing money on car parts to get it. But seeing those pictures really makes me want to pick one up.

Do you use auto or manual focus?

When I first bought the camera, I was trying to be a "hardcore" photographer and use all the manual features. Setting the aperature and shutter speed myself... All those (but SmoothCreek) turned out to be crap. Now I use the aperature or shutter dependent setting, and let the camera focus everything for me.

What a thoughtful looking dog! 💡

Yeah, I think it's definatly the best bang for your buck camera out there. The only problem I've had with it so far is getting the colors of images right. But I know its relatively easy to fix in either Adobe Photoshop, reading up on how to set up white balance a bit better, or saving all the images as RAW files and adjusting the WB later. Also, when the battery is low, it makes it a little more difficult to transfer files over to the computer, which is an unneccessary pain in the ass.
