My PS2 Memory Card won't save GT2 file, will buying PSX Memory Card help?

I just bought GT2 off of Ebay, and there is a serious problem: It won't save the game file. I am using a PS2 and a PS2 Memory Card. When I try to save, it just insists that there is no memory card present. So my question is this: If I were to buy a PSX memory card offline, would it help, or will it only save off of a PSX?

Please answer! I absolutely love the game, but presently I can only get through the career by never turning off the PS2, which is simply mad.

Maybe this comment is useless, but you an always play it on the PC using ePSXe emulator... (I say this in case you don't solve your memory card problem)

Dude, you need a PSX or Ps1 memory card. :ouch: Hopefully you dont have to go back on e-bay. Welcome to GTplanet, too. :)

Is this the wrong time to say I've been here for quite a while now?:lol: Okay, but the PSX memory card on PS2 will solve the entire problem then? I love Ebay, though. It's like the new commercial slogan they have: "It's better when you win it." When I got the never-opened copy of GT2 online, I didn't feel like I just walked into Gamestop and paid the cashier. No II triumphed over the other bidder (there was only one), I WAS VICTORIOUS! :P

and AAZ: Thanks, but I'm totally useless when it comes to emulation.

EDIT: Post #51! Upgrade from new member to junior member! Wheeee!

Well yeah. That should solve your entire problem. PS2 memory cards can't format to GT2 for some reason. But if you buy a PS1 memory card, make sure it's a SONY card, preferably new or barely used. If you buy one from Mad Katz or some other third party, you're taking a risk.

When I lived on the west coast in Portland, Oregon (where they still sell PS1 games & cards in the stores) I used to buy PS1 memory cards by the fistfull. They cost like $1 to $3 each, and about one out of 3 of them wouldn't work at all, but I figured, "ah well, it only cost a couple bucks". So yeah, you just gotta be careful unless you've got a new Sony card.

Okay, thanks for the help! It'll be nice to get some real progress into GT2 career mode now. Or rather, in about 3 or 4 weeks.

Now I am curious. I have a memory card developed by a third party, aptly named Joytech. I had no idea that risks would be attached to using it! Please, can anyone tell me exactly what these risks are? Or if it is prone to corrupting or crashing? Suddenly, I'm really worried!

My experience has been: some of them work fine for years and some of them never work, and some others work for awhile and then start to crash or glitch out. But since I keep my cards in an airtight case, this third dilemma has rarely happened to me.

I've been pulling up old replays for the Guess-a-Car thread for instance, and the one with the Mitsu Cyborg wouldn't open at first. But I found if I hold the card upwards while it's in the slot, all a sudden the PS2 starts to "recognize" there's a card present. At first it said "NO MEMORY CARD" which scared me.

I can tell you this, superberkut: all of the memory cards (except a couple) that worked for me 3 years ago still work fine. If I were you, I'd buy a Sony if I could, or one of those emulators, just to back up your present memory card.

EA11R, I had this problem when I first got my PS2. It is the same thing with PAL and NSTC. I played GT1 on my PS2 and tried to save the data on a PS2 memory card. It did not work. Luckily, I knew what was wrong straight away, and grabbed my PS1 memory card. It worked fine. So thats your problem, you need a PS1 memory card...

Edit: Sorry if the question has already been answered. I just love being helpful!
