My Ps3 is having problems playing black ops but works fine with everything else.

Step one: Put Black Ops in the bin.
Step two: Enjoy!

Seriously, though, we need to know what the problems are.
Right, sorry ya see I bought my ps3 used and it's refusing to play black ops now. It started a few days ago. I've heard many different things about using a can of air. Is it bad to use the can of air on the disk tray?

So it did play Black Ops at first but has since stopped, but it does still play other games, right? Are the other games installed on the hard drive or are they on disc? If the PS3 is still reading other discs and not Black Ops, I'd probably assume it's a bad disc rather than a bad disc reader, so see if you can borrow a copy from a friend or rent one or something. If that doesn't work then the next step would be to clean the disc drive laser, a can of compressed air is probably not going to do any harm but it's not the best method for cleaning the laser either, I don't think, but I'll let you Google the best method because I haven't cleaned a laser in years. The things you've heard about compressed air probably relate to flushing dust out of the cooling system (fan, heat sink and vents).

If cleaning the laser doesn't work, maybe you could get a replacement disc drive, failing that then the PS3 is probably buggered to the extent that it's just easier and/or cheaper to get a new one. However I think you can pay ridiculous amounts of money for the latest Call of Duty as a download on PSN which would mean you can still play something on there with a faulty disc drive, so I guess that's something.

Hey Kyle, I'm assuming this is Black Ops 1. Have you done to pre-installation of the game data to allow the game to run smoothly? If you have then this data may have become corrupt or have installed incorrectly. As there's no offline levelling or any major offline things in the game besides the campaign and solo/split screen zombie high-scores I would suggest deleting the game data. This can be done by going to your PS3 XMB (The turn on screen) and doing:

Game>Game Data Utility>Call of Duty: Black Ops>Triangle>Delete

This deletes the installed data and patches as well as DLC I believe. It shouldn't affect your saves as long as you don't delete your saved data utility. Unfortunately it means re-patching the game and downloading/installing DLC again. If this doesn't work then you may have scratched your disc. Otherwise follow neema_t's advice and look at a new disc-drive.

Oh, I didn't know it was possible to install data from Black Ops, I'd definitely check that first.
