My Second Opinions of GT2

Not I. That's one of the reasons I bought GT almost 5 years ago...I dug the fact that "normal" cars are the bulk of the game...supercars are like icing on the cake. I had Ford Racing before I got into GT1, and in that game, it's only full-race cars that are present. And it's not as realistic as GT is.

Yup, GT lets you take the daily car and race it to death. It also makes you appreciate how fast supercars are. You can really feel the speed and handling difference if you drive a GT-One after driving a Vitz :lol:.

I've made a few quick memories of GT2 in one of my latest videos. Check out my latest YouTube video:

...or visit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_H-xh1U9v5M

Watch between 3:03 and 4:14. I briefly touched on some of the dark areas of GT2. I wanted to make it quick because it was all about all of my GT experiences.

Ha! I'm at work now...no sound. :grumpy: I'll have to check this vid out later when I can hear it.

Good news... I recently found my old Memory Card that had GT2 data on it! So now I'll be playing good old GT on my PS2 now.

Results as of now:

* 54.33% complete
* Win Ratio: 189/194 (97.42%)
* Avg. Ranking: 1.03
* Cars Owned: 75

Not sure what my ePSXe numbers are like, but at least I can continue my PlayStation 2 experience of this PS1 game.

I wanna get back into some GT2 as well. There's just no time nowadays....but I've been thinking about it. :sly:

Speaking of second opinions and resurrecting GT2, I've finally got epsxe to work on my PC. I must say, the graphics look so much better it's like playing a whole new game. Small details on the car the you don't notice when playing it on the PSX are now visible, and it makes me admire this game and PD even more.

Yeah...Sucaho used to post dozens of pics from his expse here...I was always amazed, it's like a whole different game.

I went out and grabbed a copy of GT2 off ebay for $4 shipped the other day. Ive played GT4 religously over the last couple years, but my old copy of GT2 was long gone. Even though its been about five years since I played, I remember everything. Its definitely a different experience, cars handle differently, and I think require more skill to drive fast. For the most part there arent any traction controls like there are on even base/older cars in GT4. Muscle Cars did not come with traction control! Best 4 dollars Ive spent in a while, but the music is getting old.

Welcome here. Yes no traction controls on muscle cars. And then if you BUY traction controls (you have to buy them in GT2! For $50,000 each!) they barely do anything. 👎

So far as the music goes, just turn it off. :indiff: It's better to hear engine songs anyways. :)

And welcome here. :)

They aren't worth it anyway; TCS really just slows you down if you're experienced enough.

Hey, some of the music is pretty good on that game. Although I do agree that engine sounds are way better to listen to, especially during the longer races when the same song repeats.

The music is good. There aren't enough songs, tho. :( even in GT4, there's still not enough music for me. :guilty:

And welcome here. :)

Thanks:tup: Ive been playing the gt series for the last 8 yrs lol. As far as Im concerned, its one of the few games worth wasting hours on end on. Doesnt hurt being a car nut either lol

I like needing to have skill to be fast, but I think the skill needed here is different from real life as far as handling characteristics go. As I go on I notice all the cars pretty much rotate more freely, meaning you can excellent turn in, but they are quick to oversteer, even the FF cars. Tuning the GT40 is a tricky proposition.

True. IT is a different kind of skill (game versus real-life) and I've found that even from game to game (GT1, GT2, GT3, GT4...) the same make & model might handle & maneuver much differently, even when stock. I think with front-drives that oversteer (some of them) they were trying to simulate the weight at the rear of some cars as it sways left and right during corners. This is a term I call "body-sway oversteer". I don't notice it as much in GT4 unless I'm really forcing it to happen (via feint motion) and even then, some cars won't exhibit any oversteer in this game at all. :indiff:

Haven't really played GT2 in a while, but I just wanted to post this interesting find. You know the Super Touring Trophy in GT2? I did a search online for some of the cars that race in this cup, and most of them are from British Touring Car Championship action. It's something I just realized. I was looking up the Renault Laguna. I came across the 1998 BTCC championship cars and noted the various BTCC racing machine liveries. Alternatively, I even looked up the Peugeot 406, Honda Accord, and Nissan Primera.

Just an interesting tidbit I wanted to get across on GTP.

Yeah, I wish that set of races was a Championship series...

It's got a nice level of competition, and is a good place to take cars you have applied a race-mod to.
