My SR/Driver rating dilemma

I don’t get a great deal of time to go on GTS and when I do it’s not very often at the right time to do the online races. When I do get on (outside the racing times) I just play with settings and hot lap as that’s all you can do. This means that when I do get on at the correct time to have a race or two I am racing against other class D drivers but because I spend time setting half decent lap times the last 5 or so races I have been fastest by a large margin, ok so this leads to race wins and a good SR rating but it’s not great for enjoyment. I enjoy a good close CLEAN race I am wondering how this will pan out in the full game, will I never get to race against fast guys who play a lot like in this BETA? Anybody else in the same boat?

If you win, it's good for your DR. If you additionally don't crash, it's good for your SR. Currently you mainly get matched to same SR and similar DR.

If you still win those races easily you're in, you will soon be promoted to a better DR and thus more competitive races.

But how should a rating system work, if you're only doing very few races? If it promotes everyone rapidly, you will get faulty results...

I was wondering if lap times should/could play a part in the selection of opponents. Why not use qualifying times and SR rating rather than just DR and SR which is how it seems now....... If the full game has the same system I don't want to have to "grind" online races in the hope of finding a competitive one...... although being a GT game I should be prepared for some grinding!!

Mostly because if someone is a one lap wonder who crashes often then they're not actually that fast over a race distance. DR is attempting to put people who are roughly a similar pace over several laps together, and while qualifying time is somewhat related there are also other aspects of consistency and adaptability around others that come into it.

The higher level players will always have to "grind" some races to get to their true level. That's just how it is. If you only play rarely then this is a disadvantage for you, but the advantage is that when you get to those upper echelons you don't find that it's populated by people who had a couple of lucky races but don't really belong.

To be fair I think this is something that will be resolved when the full game launches and there are a lot more events to choose from that will help increase your DR.

I think part of the reason for them limiting the time's for the events at the moment is that they are stressing servers, something they can't really do if peoples playing times are randomly spread across any given day

If you really want to stress the server then open up the filters to all parts of the country for all

I went from D B rating to B A rating in 3 races. I'm usually not online when the races are going on. At B A rating with #2 qualifier time in NA, I was racing good, fast, clean lobbies.

Just survive the first two corners, focus on your braking points and win. You'll be in better lobbies extremely quick.
