heres my work

photo realistic render, umm didnt learn much from doing this except they take a long time but youll find ways when you only have a week to do it :indiff: 20 by 30 inches btw!!!

this one is a mix media from my high school days when the GT-R model of the R34 gen was just released in dec 1999. gosh, i feel old :guilty:

quick sketch from dozens (literally) for a Mini project. Mini only has one car currently so our project was to add another model. my proposal was a 2nd additonal car to the Cooper model that was more sportier, lighter and smaller within the same if smaller price range for those who wanted a weekend car. i decided to leave out the earlier ideations as they arent really coherent and not exactly precise. think first gen mr-2. but cooler, haha. some ppl did trucks, vans etc etc.

the first of the final renderings, a lot of errors as this was the first from the all-nighter for presentations the next day. yeah it sucks :ouch:

side view, a bit bubblier then i remembered... :sly:

i actually forgot to do the side mirror on this one so i had to xacto and spray fix a quickie mirror, then add shadow underneath 👍

ideation from an accord project. short 1 week project was about mid-model updates/facelifts and we were set to focus on the rear cus our instructor hated the rear. well the mid-model update was just released weeks after this, with spy photos floating around when i was doing it. hard to not get influenced...

one of two directions i decided to get more detail into. yeah, i didnt leave too much white in the lense (minus 10 points, oh well...)

the final render, its "too clean" and kinda cartoony with the thick black outline in some areas. not my style to work "loose" but im trying now. a lot of errors you can spot out in the wheels :boggled:

Hey, a lot of nice work there (the Mini images are dead links). What are the medium used in the first two?

I can't really say much, you've probably gotten all of the advice at school when you were there.

Where'd you go for school? What do you do now?

I'm going to be getting into that kind of education in the next couple of years, I've got a lot of work to do to get ready.

I know it probably seems a bit underpar for what you do, but you should try to participate in our competitions if you have the time. At least you'll get practice working with respecting a design brief.

for the Z, its your basic marker base coat (i like prisma tho some people like tria, i hate ad markers), many chalk (prisma nupastel) layers on top of that, then finishing up the details with prisma color pencil. the trick is too leave white space :)
but the formula is the same every time: sketch > overlay > line drawing > marker > chalk > pencil

for the gtr, first inner most circle is your fantastic economy tempera paint  , next ring is prisma color pencil, then graphite/pencil, then water colors (except for the asphalt cus i messed up so i went over it with tempera in a last ditch to save it) this is very old and i dont draw like this anymore, it's nice practice for fine art or illustration however

i'm currently at pasadena city college, which is reknown by many to be the spring board to art center. its a good palce to get your feet wet as most I.D. classes are taught by art center instructors/alumni. switching to the whole industrial design field from fine art was a big step for me to over come, still learning lil tricks here and there. plus you learn a lil of entertainment design and product design too (yeah cars is just one huge prodcut anyways). right now im working retail, and i must say 80% of the human population are complete morons and my faith in humanity has dropped significantly over the past year...

i added direct image links to the minis
the pics arent too great, took them indoor at night :sly:

if anybody needs advice about colleges, carreers, or even drawing fill free to hit me up on the pm. either that or email a counselor at www.artcenter.edu

Wow, lucky... my only grip about them is they do more flashy than functional stuff in both transport and Industrial design. That's one reason I didn't go there but I'm sure other than that it's the top place to go to get the best experience and direct interaction with people in the industry.

I'm going to have to talk to Art Center, and other design schools in the States. I've got to figure out the feasability of getting there on my budget and education.

I agree with the Photorealism. It's not my style either. I don't really see a point in it other than practicing with markers and stuff like that.

I'm in the Tria crowd for markers as well, Prismas go dry in an instant, but the Trias get expensive if you need to buy 30 markers...

Do you have an online 'folio I could ckeck out? I'll drop you a PM later on, I've got some questions 'bout schools and stuff like that.

you forgot to mention the tuition, and lack of social life. bye bye friends and family, dont even think about gf's or working (so says EVERYONE i talked to) :(
ill be one horny broke lonely bastard when im done with school. LOL

umm dont have anything up online really. no time to take decent pictures, its either work or school or hw for me this past year with a week or two break inbetween to work on my car/take vacations. havent played gt4 in months, still need to get drive that audi R8! i hear the new "must-have" markers are copics. refillable too, but pricey, i think they are made in japan.

Very pricy... when I went to Art Center's book store I bought like 4 or 5 and it cost me something like $30 - $40? :scared:

have you tried swain's in glendale or the art store (over on raymond ave, yes right by hooters! now called blicks or something like that) a lot cheaper and the ahve 10% off for students and have sales quite often too

Nah, I haven't been there in a long while since I got out of Industrial design. I don't need the markers because it would be a waste money and never get used. :guilty:

We have stores that carry Prisma and Tria anyway which are good enough. Stabilo and Tombo too although both arn't nearly as good.

BTW, I never said it in my earlier posts but nice drawings, I hope you do decide to join us in the car draw comps. :)

I stick with Prismas only because I have retailers around where I can get the whole colour range for less than two dollars apiece. I think I might colour/redner the next Drawing comp, If I have any of the right colours (my recent drawing needs have dried out so many of my markers, my next purchase would probably hit 100$).

What I also found a while ago were Letraset/ProMarker, which were dirt cheap, came in a couple colours (maybe 50 different). The good part was that you could get them to spew out the ink with a little extra pressure, which is something I always like having with a marker, I like powering down the layers. Since they were made by Letraset, they have the same bodies as the Letraset/Tria markers, so you pay a third of what you get a Tria for, and if you have any old dry Trias, those extra third tips fit right onto the Promarker bodies. Do that, and you have a Tria for less than half of the price.
