My Thoughts on Shift 2

I have been trying Shift 2 on PC for a few hours now, and it definitely seems like the use of a steering wheel was a after thought. It just does not feel right. I cannot feel the road at all through the steering wheel, and even with the lock and sensitivity cranked up, and speed and drift turned all the way down, I have to turn the wheel too far for most corners.

With that out of the way, the game on Hard/Elite is more challenging then the races in GT5, unless I am in a slower car then the competition. Once I get a head I can usually hold it, but it is not nearly as easy as GT5. Although the collisions seems to take the opposite approach to GT5, if I just bump some one a little, or them me, most likely we are both going around. I think this was done to create more action, but a setting some where between Shift 2 and GT5 would be preferable to me.

I am hoping some of the wheel/FFB issues get addressed by patch or mod in the future. As that is where GranTurismo really beats it.

Which wheel do you have? There are settings posted all around and the only wheel that seems not to work is the (too new) thrustmaster t500rs..

GT2, and it's nothing to do with the workaround posted on here.

It's to do with FF randomly dropping out and having to reboot your wheel to get FF back.

I am using a G27, and I think I could get the sensitivity worked out, but there is still no feel of the road through the wheel.

I've been playing it for a few hours with a DS3 and I'm pretty sure that was an afterthought as well...

I agree with you, this probably the biggest flaw in an otherwise fun game. The feel of the cars have a sponginess to them, but that can be improved to a good degree with upgrades. The "feedback" definitely feels missing though (physical as well as audio feedback when losing grip). I think the physical feedback can be patched back in, not so sure about the audio.

Hopefully they also patch the flaky FFB on Fanatec wheels on 360 (it cut out on me in a couple of races and I had to exit and reenter the race to get it back). Not a catastrophe but still annoying.

I also agree that they did a great job on the AI, really aggressive without being overly crash happy. Pick an appropriate car and they'll be on you backside the whole way through.

All in all I think it's worth a purchase, but still not quite enough to tear me away from Forza; I suppose when I'm further along I wouldn't mind switching back and forth though. After I return this rental, I'm probably buying this in a few months when it hits the bargain bin.
