My Thrustmaster F1 Wheel Project

This is work in progress, and the wheel needs a bit of a clean..

The Sli-pro was a tight squeeze, but i eventually got it to fit:), just waiting on a plug A to plug A usb cable to arrive now so i can test her out.

The main carbon plate that i made needs rubbing down again, my lacquering skill are not very good at the moment :(
But theres plenty of room on the plate to add more dials, rotary switches
So im thinking of adding a brightness rotary for the sli-pro next.

The rubber grips, im doing away with, going to see if my local leather shop will fit some leather grips for me, or maby they no somone who will :)

Anyways will keep updateing this post as i progress
Regards
Josh

Nice of you to give us an update on this. I want to see this baby in motion when you get her going. At least show us a pic of the wheel mounted on the base with the SLI going :dopey:

excellent job 👍

you did what thrustmaster should have done in the first place: add a digital display and remove useless fake knobs.

I am amazed at the white letters at the rotaries being worn down already. Got so much acid in your sweat? Very cool mod though although the center of the wheel now screams for it to be filled up with an original badge of some sort. I dunno but for me it's too empty. I agree about useless buttons not being necessary though. ;)

Yeah we need to get something into the center. At least you got rid of the toy-like feeling the fake buttons probably presented. Come on man hurry up and get that USB cable I want to see how this turns out.

Well theres plenty of switches i can put in the centre for the sli-pro, Brightness rotary encoders, Tracking button and Quick Info Buttons
Plus im very new to all this, this is my first ever go at modding somthing
its just having the knowledge to do it, sounds scary to me, but will try the
Brightness rotery first:scared:

That's sick! Well done.

Wait......the rotary dials on the official Thrustmaster F1 wheel don't function? What a joke!

Great build on this wheel! Excellent job!

Plus he managed to do what Thrustmaster couldn't... He added -working- rotary dials!

The center is still looking a little bit empty. Make your awesome project into an even more awesome endeavor, add the screen!

Coxis, if i add the sim screen it means adding another mini usb to the wheel,
would it be possible to add the simscreen usb to the Sli-pro usb so i only have on mini usb coming of the f1 wheel, and not 2 ?
im not sure if this could be done as im realy new to all this sort of stuf
And thanks for the kind remarks

Yep thats right the centre dial and the surrounding dials are all fake and do nothing
The worst part is they dint mention this when they first realeased the wheel
It was only by luck that i found out

Oh, I really don't know. I'm not a modder, but you probably would need two USB connections.

It shouldn't be a problem for PC racing, though... on PS3 I agree, you would need to make it single USB, but then the SLI Pro wouldn't work. PC is much more flexible.

How about buying a mini usb 2 port hub and ripping out the PCB then solder the connections directly from the screen and SLI onto the hub and then a single cable to the PC or PS3 (and make sure the hub works on PS3 before hand). Should work if the hub's pcb is small enough. 2 USB devices don't work off of a single wire under normal circumstances though.

Thats a really neat LCD add on there, but I think it would be cool to mount it directly above the wheel because it looks more like GT than open wheel.

Then you could have the best of both worlds

That sounds like a better idear, just have to see if i can get a 2 port hub small enough to fit inside,
Thanks for the idear:tup:

Are you using a PC or PS3 for the game? I hope someday you will share details on how you did this. It's a mound of work and creativity, especially the programming. Congratulations!

PC, SLI-PRO doesn't work with PS3 games, sadly.
I suspected that would be the case due to the programming you would need to be able to add. Congrats again! No are no hacker, you are professionally trained no doubt.
