don't know where I should put up this thread.., please do so kindly move it to the proper sub-forum if it's inappropriate for this place..,

regarding engine tuning in the game series and in real life, something has been bugging me the moment I started tuning cars in Gran Turismo.., on pure NA cars (muscle cars for example), you can't buy Turbo upgrades for them. While on pure Turbo cars (cars that come with both turbine and intercooler for stock), you can't buy NA upgrades/you can't re-work the engine.., does this stuff also work in the real life?? Why is that??

I mean, if you have a Mitsubishi Lan-Evo VI in real life for example, you just simply can't buy NA upgrades?? or if you have a Chevrolet Corvette C4, you really can't buy turbo upgrades for it??

regarding superchargers in GT4, why is there only one type?? which type of supercharger is it?? Centrifugal, Roots-Type or Twin-Screw??

On a turbo car you can indeed do internal mods to make more power, and you can put a turbocharger or supercharger on quite literally anything.

On a Lan-Evo, you can buy internal upgrades, but those that the turbo setup will like won't be the same an NA motor would want. On say a C4 Vette, you can turbo or supercharge it if you want but it may require internal modification to hold up to the stresses of forced induction.

This is an area GT4 isn't very accurate in, but then...

Lastly, the superchargers in GT4 would seem to be roots-type in nearly all cases.

A lot of the NA upgrades in the game are actually things you would do to a FI car as well. A lot of people who put a turbo on say a Mustang get a specific camshaft for the turbo, as well as new gaskets and such. The way the game only lets certain cars be turbo and others NA comes from their bias toward non-American cars I believe. Even the Charger in fast and the furious (uncapitalized to show disrespect) had a supercharger. I think the reason the game offers turbos more frequently than superchargers is that turbos are more effective, especially in racing. What really bugs me is that you cant up the displacement on anything other than the Skyline R34. Thats bullcrap. Youre telling me no American car can be bored and stroked!? I can even turn my Jeep Cherokee 4.0 into a 4.6. And when you have all those American muscle cars, they need to include more stroker options.

Actually, some of the Honda's have the stroking option aswell. Look at the older Civic's (early 90's) for the displacement option, and you can buy both NA & FI, but you can only have one of them fitted.

Ha! He said "stroking". :yuck:  In all seriousness, tho, they really gotta get the displacement angle right in GT5....or else I'll cry. :( PD should know better by now.

[]On topic mode[/] I think part of the problem is you can't individually put one single upgraded part into a car. In other words, when you buy a stage 1 turbo system, you buy the entire package as one "part" instead of buying a thinner head gasket, an oil cooler, the turbo itself, etc.

Also, I think in the case of American cars, most European cars, and some Japanese, we're buying parts (in my opinion) straight from the factory. In other words, when you guy a stage 3 NA kit for a Corvette, you're getting something that Chevrolet would offer to actual real-life racing drivers & teams.

Does Chevy sponsor turbo-charged cars in GT racing? I'm not an expert here, so somebody more knowledgeable can answer that one. If the answer is "no", that could be why you can't turbocharge a Corvette in GT. Perhaps turbo kits (in real life) for Corvettes are all from after-market sources? Sources equivalent to HPA Motorsports for VW or Tom's for Toyota? Any thoughts?

I think the mods available are based on what real racing teams would use and are also governed by specific racing rules? I.e. the Vettes run NA V8s in Le mans, no turbos, hence the reason why you can't slap one on.

But then one could argue why they included tuning houses? I mean tuning houses specialize in street tuned rides, using turbos for otherwise NA specific cars.

The grand dichotomy.

Perhaps it was just overlooked. I mean having a turbo charged Vette could be more of a riot in terms of fun but less able around a track and considering the game is all about race tracks i can understand why those upgrade packages were excluded.
