Awesome pics man 👍
Hows does the nascar handle a track like that? Yet to drive one to see.
In the rain with no assists, it's quite a challenge, yet a lot of fun. I ran a 30 lapper to see how strategy might play out, and it was an interesting experience. Started out in the pouring rain and immediately went to work. The pace was around 1:16 or so when around lap 4 or 5, the rain quit, sun popped out, and things began to dry out. The field comes in at about lap 9 and puts on intermediate tires. I stay out to see how the field does, and they instantly eat out 2 to 3 seconds per section out of my lead, so I come in and put on intermediates. I lost so much ground staying out on full wets that the lead I had built up was turned into 7th place by the time I came back out, but I went back to work. Now, on intermediates, the pace picked up. A dry line began to form and lap times fell to about 1:10 to 1:12. The field is better than me on the intermediates, but I hold my ground okay when the field comes in again. Once more, I stay out. I see a distinct dry line but it's narrow and I'm still throwing up water if I veer out of it too much, so for the time being, I stay on intermediates. The field had to have put slicks on. And it was a dumb collective hivemind. Clearly they anticipated being able to stay on the dry line, but it was so narrow, that once they got a tire out of it, they started slipping and sliding badly. It's so bad that by lap 20 I get a lap up on the field while everyone's struggling, and I stick with the inters, with water still on most of the track. It works well for me, I can get grip on the dry section but I don't immediately shoot off for the wall like everyone else does once I drop my tires into the dampness. I can still get pretty loose anytime I want to, but nothing near as bad as the AI. By lap 25 my intermediates had degraded due to wear, so I decided to come in and experiment with my one lap lead. The pit is recommending I'm putting on hard slicks but I switch back to the intermediate tires and head off into the sunset, still kicking up enough water to be satisfied with my decision. My lap times at the end had dropped down to 1:07. The field's decision to go to slicks really put a damper on an otherwise fun race. But hey, I had enough fun trying to keep the car pointed in the right direction.
Starting out especially, I usually keep the car in 3rd or 4th gear. It seems like keeping the RPM's down helps traction. Going into turns 3 and 4, I don't want to bring it down to 2nd, but the RPM's get so low at that point that you have to, and you have to really baby the throttle coming through there. Hit it too hard, which is very easy to do, and the rear tires start spinning right away. The fun section is coming out of 4 into the tunnel. I'm wanting to shortshift into 3rd, but the dry section under the tunnel is so close that I can't decide between short shifting and just trying to hold on to get a good bite on the dry section. Then I'll punch it for that short time before coming back out into the wet. Turn 5 is really hairy, especially having to set up for 6.
When it's full wet out there, it's definitely best to be off-line. Seems like there's more grip around in general, but as it begins drying out, and you put on intermediate wets, it doesn't hurt to sniff out some dry road. As the race wore on, especially on intermediates and late in the going, it became easier to shift down into 2nd in 3 and 4 and get traction. It was still wet enough though I was still sliding around, especially on exit.
To interludes, yes, I agree. This thread does need much more JPM, but alas I cannot select his car in Arcade Mode, at least at this point. In fact the 42 in my handle is for JPM. I'm a big fan of his.
Oh wait, you're just here for the pics and not my silly rambling. Here you go! Enjoy!
Note that I switched over to the 24 car because it seems like everyone in Gran Turismo wants to be Dale Earnhardt Jr.
