Nascar, great RedNeck fun

I personally hate nascar...the games are ok, but I still think it's really boring, I like the touring car races and stuff cause the cars look like real cars, and are made by the company...and they race on road courses not ovals...

I don't much care for Nascar either (although I have been known to watch it). My main ***** with it is that it's the ultimate in form over function - the reason the racing's so close is because the cars are all the frikkin same! Australian V8 Supercars have more variety! Grandpa's Axe technology, and yet they still spend millions. Amazing, and the cars contribute nothing to automotive technology! And they don't run the rain! Hello..., even F1 runs in the rain!

And my favourite, the 'Will-It-Ever-End' 600 mile races!

It reminds me of one-day cricket - in one day cricket you only need to watch the last five overs, in Nascar you only need to watch the last three laps.

It's motoring racing's equivalent to the Hollywood blockbuster action film. Go Arnie!

lol Vat, you're right. It's like sisy raceing:embarrassed:hh no it's raining we best stop before our overadvertized cars get wet, ohh look he spun out and didn't get in the way of anyone but we better have a caution, ohh no his car is smokeing better get the yellow flag out before the track gets dirty, ohh my this race is hard because they actually have to turn right...I'm tired of it.

I do watch sometimes cause I like wrecks(not just in Nascar),but becides that it's bland...

I must admit I do watch it hanging out for a crash - which I do kinda feel guilty about.

I actually saw it live in Melbourne about ten years ago (there's a speedway set up to the north of Melbourne - the Thunderdome) - geez those things are loud. After about four laps it started to get pretty boring though.

Real car races really are just too *****ng loud:lol:... I saw the Modena trophy at the nurburgring last year, damn those things are LOUD!

I sometimes watch NASCAR (because I don't want to miss Inside Formula on eurosport) and I find it pretty cool, although the races are pretty messy (eq. pitstops) and dangerous... (No helmets on pitcrew? Whoa!) ---> although that's a new rule now (or is it? -I don't really know). Also there's too much advertisement... well, there is just as much advertisement as in F1. But in NASCAR it's just a little more "in your face".

I grew up watching NASCAR, and it was cool back in the day when they were real cars, not cages with wheels and 750 hp engines, plus, the bodies are based on FWD cars! I mean some people do take the sport too seriously, but I don't. It does get boring, I still watch it, because it's something to do on sunday. I have always liked road racing, cars from the showroom duking it out. I would like to do that some day. I watch almost every form of racing, and NASCAR isn't my favorite.

If you want to call NASCAR a sissy sport, I'd like to see you race a 500 mile race, in a metal box, on an 95 degree day, on banked tracks, trying to get to first place. Its not easy. The same goes with the other forms of motorsport, F1, Indy, FIA Rally, any type of road racing. Every form of racing has its limits on what they want to do. If they want to race in the rain or not.

NASCAR is just an American pastime like baseball or basketball. Not everyone is gonna like it. Everybody has there own tastes.

Oh I wouldn't call it sissy. On the contrary, I think NASCAR has some very real safety issues the governing has seriously failed to address. How can you have two drivers killed at the same corner a year apart - hello?

I watch NASCAR on Eurosport sometimes, they show a half hour or hour summary.
I kinda like it, because it is rather exciting seeing those cars driving so close to eachother with such highspeed.

But i don't think i can watch an entire race. That's strange because i watch every F1 race live and enjoy it every minute.

i wouldn't call it sissy but you cannot compare it to f1, indy or rally , takes a lot more to drive a car through snow and mud that to drive a "box" around an oval.

I'm not much of a NASCAR fan, either. Long races on ovals, won't race in the rain. The problem is, being in the US, there's not much else even shown, especially with CART having so many problems.

Anyway, I wouldn't call it a sissy sport either. More than anything, it seems to me that many of the rules (like restrictor plates, etc) are more designed to keep the cars in a pretty tight pack, where they are sure to bump and slam into each other to move ahead. It seems like it keeps a pretty serious element of demolition derby in NASCAR.

BUT, I don't see much of a point in simply posting comments deriding a sport or its fans without at least providing a reasonable argument.

My 2 cents, I guess.

The only reason I watch NASCAR is because I don't have cable, and NASCAR is one of the only types of car racing viewable on network TV (with the occasional Indy/F1 races here and there).

how fit you need to be to participate in a NASCAR WC race?

half the field is over 40, and Dave Marcis ran his last Daytona at 60, this past February...

look, i'm not a great NASCAR fan, but how many threads like this are there around the net? i think jordan himself even mentioned being glad he doesn't have a lot of threads like this on his site.

Just finished watching one of the more interesting NASCAR races.

There was a 27 car crash, so only 13 cars missed extreme damage. The #2 car flipped a bunch of times, and it was very interesting, because there were really only three cars that were fighting for the win. The rest were either too slow or still in the garage... some of the cars that came out onto the field after the wreak looked like stripped mods, since they just wanted them to go the minimum speed!

V E R Y . . . interesting race.

redneck limosine, it's actually pretty sweet

Well, I gotta say, I love NASCAR! I'm from the UK, though I have been to the US to see two races (one at Darlington, one at Richmond). Both were great, and personally I like the fact that the cars are almost identical, becuase it makes for much closer and exciting races.
