NASCAR Winston Cup Daytona 500

Did anybody watch qualifying? It was pretty suprising. Is anyone here a NASCAR fan? As of now, we have one week until the big race. On this page, there is not one reference to NASCAR. Surely someone here is interested.

I'm a NASCAR fan...and I watched the qualifying today.

Jimmie Johnson? Who?

Looks like we have another Kevin Harvick coming to the series.

as usual i'll be rooting for ward burton. his luck has to change sooner or later. we saw what he could do when his luck was going his way (2nd place in points for a little while a season or two ago). :)

didn't watch qualifying, though i think Harvick has a chance at the win... Richard Childress always had good cars there in the past... DEI too...

Whichever Earnhardt-related car gwets the nod from NASCAR will win it. I missed qualifying, but I heard some rookie won pole. Usually, it adds up to nothing (Loy Allen Jr, anyone?) The race means so much more than all the pre-hype stuff.

Yes, the rarely-spotted "F1 and NASCAR fan" has spoken.

Hey Monsoon...your guy won it! That's so cool. Ward Burton is a good guy.

I was sort of rooting for Jimmie Johnson myself, since he's from San Diego. I couldn't believe Geoffrey Bodine was there at the end. If there's one thing an announcer will say in every single race it's "...Bodine is into the wall..." ;)

i missed "the big one"...

am i the only one who thinks the NASCAR officials need to get their heads out of their asses regarding the Sterling Marlin accident? Why bother looking for things when it's that evident:

1-he was across the yellow line... doesn't matter if he was only 2 wheels across it, he was still across it.

2-He clearly tried to pull his fender off his tire...

why take about 15 minutes to decide to put him at the back?

Congrats to Burton! now i need to wait for Bristol to watch another NASCAR race...

The rules clearly state that that both wheels have to be below the line and that he has to advance his postion. He did none of thses two things. And Gordon even explained it was his fault not Sterlings. So if Gordon hadn't threw a block Sterling wouldn't have attempted to pull out his fender. But since He did pull his fender under red, he should have been penalized, which he was. The officials did a great job on that. Though I wish Sterling could of won it. he is my favorite driver. I'm glad Ward won though, I think he's good too.

PS I'm proud of this forum. I have never seen one thread ever go without someone flaming on NASCAR. But that was over at the GTF, and I'm fed up with them. This is the way it should be.

Yeah, it's nice to see no "NASCAR sucks" or "NASCAR is fixed" threads around here. :)

Red-flags and a restart with 3 laps to go was really stupid...it cheapens the whole thing. Come on, no race has ever been continued over a remaining 3 laps (out of 200???).

Just like the Indy 500, suddenly the rule books mean nothing. The Indy shirts tried everything they could to make an IRL championship driver win the darnm thing, and they failed. NASCAR made a hideous attempt to fix the ending in some sort of way.

That being said, it was a good race until lap 197. The red-flag was too much, unnecessary. Sterling Marlin should have won, but when they red-flaggd it, he pulled a Scott Goodyear-like move and tried to work on his car. I have to congratulate him for smiling and joking about the whole thing when interviewed.
