I know there's quite a few music makers hanging around here. Any of you heard of this? It's a challenge to write and record a full album (about 30 minutes) in the month of November, all by yourself.

It's based on NaNoWriMo, a more well known challenge to write a novel in November. There's also FAWM, a February album challenge with more collaboration.

Music's a big part of my life and I want to give this a shot. Mostly as a way to force me to learn FL Studio. No live instruments for me, except perhaps vocals if I have the time.

Details here.

Plus an area on reddit for discussion and sharing work here.

Who's up to the challenge? Off the top of my head, @Touring Mars , @Driving Park , @Pako, @TenEightyOne might be interested. ;)

Snap, I might have to tackle this. That in addition to the Christmas multitrack album I'm toying with doing, and the multitrack/electronics tracks for a soundtrack I'm doing. But this sounds great.

I'm thinking we should try for a GTPlanet entry to FAWM too! 👍

Wow, that's cool! My wife is doing the Novel challenge. Interesting that you mention that. I'm, unfortunately, watching the kids so she can write her 50,000 words. LOL I'll still have to check it out though.

I've started writing my album...this is going to be a fun ride. Right now the genre I wrote down for it is "vocal electro-acoustic trance". Doesn't have a nice ring to it, does it? At any rate it'll have lots of multitracked brass, lots of synths, and at least a smattering of vocals. At my writing speed, it'll be difficult to complete on time...but I guess that's the point, right? To stop chasing perfection and just do it. (Not that I ever achieve perfection otherwise...)

I "completed" the first song in the first 24 hours on Sunday, and planned to work every day but put it off until this morning. I put down some basic parts and was about call it a day but I got into it and ended up with a pretty good basis for song 2, which I'll try to finish tonight or tomorrow.

Really glad I found this. Everything so far has been, although not perfect, much better than I was expecting.

I don't have anything to share quite yet, but some people have finished already, inculiding someone in the first week.

So if you were planning on doing this @Driving Park , don't feel like you've run out of time or shouldn't bother. I'll gladly listen to whatever you come up with. Or maybe you've committed and been working hard this whole time, in which case you've done much better than I have already. :D

@dylansan Yeah...I'm too much of a perfectionist to possibly finish within the first week. Also, the nature of what I can do means the process takes longer. That said, I've made good progress but the album has been on the back burner for a while. Gigs and things have been eating up my time, but I have 4 days coming up with nothing so I should be able to get alot done.

At this point, I've come to terms with the fact that my life is a lot busier than many people doing this challenge, so I really don't feel any pressure to complete it. It would be nice to of course, but if I don't it's no big deal. Plus, even if I don't finish, I'll still release what I have so far.
