GTPlanet, to continue on my "coverage" of sports from a collegiate perspective, I decided I'd open this thread for discussion of college sports. This time around, however, I've gone from a college sport I love to one I'm trying to get into- college basketball. At first, I don't really know why I don't really like college hoops. I've played basketball (for fun) at school before, just that I'm not really the school hoops follower. And the teams I've heard of in college football are some I don't really know in college. For example, if you follow college hoops, UConn won national championships not only in the Men's devision, but also the Women's. I think the UConn male Huskies beat the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (not sure). In the women's division, the UConn Lady Huskies beat the Tennessee Lady Volunteers. But if you look in college FOOTBALL, UConn is a... so-so team compared to its basketball counterpart. I've heard of several good teams in college basketball. The examples below are examples I heard of as being good teams:

UConn, Tennessee, Dayton, Gonzaga, Syracuse, Texas Tech, Virginia Tech, Duke, North Carolina, Lincoln, Michigan State...

These were some of the teams I've heard of as being good teams. GTPlanet, I've tried to come along with a college football thread... and now I want to try to give out a thread on college basketball, for the fans. With the new season starting soon, I want to try to make an effort to get into the feel of WHY college basketball is so entertaining. GTPlanet, if you love college basketball, I hope I can make this general thread on games to be something good. I'm kind of committed to my collegiate football thread, but if you want to talk college basketball, go ahead and reply now. This is my debut to the "Basketball" forums. You can discuss ANYTHING on college basketball on the Men's or Women's sides. Everything from classic games, bigtime rivalries, trendsetters and stars of the future, great coaches, heartbreaks and upsets, anything, my friend. Let us have it!

With the 2004-2005 season staring up soon, the preseason favorites are the Big XII's Kansas Jayhawks. I think the only other Big XII team I heard was good was maybe the Texas Longhorns. Now, this is college BASKETBALL we're talking. Just because a team is the best in one sport doesn't mean the same for another. So Duke will probably get OWNED by Florida State (will they? Read my report this weekend to find out.) in college football, but their basketball program is pretty solid. But then, USC is an impressive football program, but I don't know how their basketball team fares to other western teams like UCLA, Stanford, and stuff like that. I think the season starts up with ESPN showing NCAA College Basketball on November 11th. But the "Midnight Madness" deal has long been in effect here in America. And as purists may know, when Midnight Madness comes, the new season is underway. It may be more like preseason right now, but unfortunately, we're getting there. I'll continually follow college football including great football programs like Virginia Tech, Auburn, Texas, Tennessee, and thereforth. But in college basketball, there are teams you may have never heard of. For example, UCSB (University of California-Santa Barbara), Texas A&M-San Antonio, Lincoln, Long Island, Marquette, and that sort of thing.
