Need a bit of help

I wasn't sure where to post this so posted it here. I really need a bit of help with a problem that just showed up for me.

I hadn't played GT4 in quite sometime so went to have a bit of a play this morning. Turned the game on but could only use the left stick to steer with on my DSC. I went to the options menu and for steering it only gave me the sticks WTF. I've never used the stick to steer always used the pad.
I've tried resetting the game, pressing the analog button in the middle of the controller to no avail.

Anyone have an idea what may have happened or how to correct this besides buying a new controller? It worked fine last time I used it.

maybe you should change.

I use the sticks - I think alot of people do, because it offers more precision.

if you really want the d pad, I'd say resetting it again. But when you went to change the controlls, did you scroll up to the other buttons? Because I remember the sticks being on the other side of the list, which would mean that the buttons are further up if you scroll up the list in the options.

I fired the game up again, went to the options menu, then down to controllers. I moved the arrow over the DS2 game pad. At the bottom of the screen it scrolls DS2 analog controller button config. Clicked the #1 controller but couldn't find what you described.

Does it give you an option to switch your steering to the D-pad?
No Parnelli it is not giving me that option. When I click the steering options the drop down menu only gives me the left or right stick.

I don't remember changing it. What's funny is the down and right work on the pad but the up and left do not. :indiff:

Have you ever had an incident with the D- Pad before, and then it started working again? Because old problems could come back...in that case you'd have to buy a new controller.

Pepsi0 no I've not, at least with this controller. Although I'm leaning more towards the controller is shot. I've just got no way of testing it as I don't know anyone who has a game I could test it on.

First, don't listen to the people telling you to change to the sticks.

Second, there's never been an option in the menus which shows the buttons as opposed to the left stick. The game doesn't distinguish between the two - you can actually switch between them mid-corner if you want.

Lastly, it sounds like your pad is knacked. It happens - I'm on my third controller now from knacked pad and/or X button. New one it is, I'm afraid.

Thanks Famine. I started to think the game stuffed up on me or the console. I guess I'll mothball the PS2 again for a while as I don't have much left after this wonderful economy force me to close my business. :guilty:

DAMAMIT. Treed by Famine. I thought about this some more and bam... In effect, sounds like your d-pad is gone haywire. :dunce:

Oddly, I have a pad I've worn in for playing GT4 with and I can't use someone else's pad as effectively.

Though taking it with me from station to station at UKGTP11 brought some odd looks. And comments :D

I've got the same with mine. I own 2 controllers, and one is worn down completely and has a certain feel to it. I perform WAY better when using that one compared to when I use the newer one.

I also have two controllers and have the same problem with them, although they weren't the same to begin with. The plain old DS2 I've used forever is probably unusable for some people because the rubber mushroom cap has come off the left analog stick, leaving only the plastic behind, but I'm extremely comfortable with it (even if it does leave big calluses on my left thumb!). Meanwhile, a wireless controller my parents got me and my sister for Christmas a couple years ago has a somewhat different shape, which affects my grip, but the main difference is in the feel of the analog sticks. I can barely control cars at high speed because the sticks are "floppy" and don't offer a certain resistance offered by my usual controller.
