About a year ago, my computer got infected with Movies Toolbar (AKA Conduit), and eventually it wasn't too hard to go through all the necessary steps in deleting it. Now however, i'm getting warning messages saying Movies Toolbar has blocked an attempted default browser change - so there has to be something still on there. The question is, what possibly? I've gone through everything over and over again, but there seems to be something hiding elsewhere on my computer. Any suggestions?

All the extensions and default browser settings were the first thing I changed. According to the articles that tell you how to get rid of it, there should be no trace by now.

McAfee does a complete system scan every 48 hours or so, and since it hasn't found anything in the past year, i'm just a little puzzled as to what could be happening.

Yep, pretty sure SAS will find something hidden in the depths somewhere.
I had a similar issue with my sons' computer a while back. Between Malawarebytes and SAS the amount of little nasties they found was frightening.
SAS found the most and I now run periodic checks using both on my son's PC as well as mine just to keep on top of things.

Thanks guys. I hope to run MalwareBytes this evening and give it a try.

Call me ignorant, but I always thought all those antispyware/malware programs were a source of more spyware.

Having said that, I trust what I'm reading here and I'll give one of those a try, later at night on my PC.

Are you sync'ing your browser to multiple computers?

Saw a scenario were we'd clean up one computer's chrome problems, then they would get on their other computer with the same username and it'd all come back again.

Just started MalwareBytes, and guess what... 33 detected objects. What are they? Bandoo Media Movies Toolbar.

Thanks everyone, we'll see how it turns out once the thing finishes.

Sorry to bump, but it just finished the scan. 47 PUP's, all Bandoo Media, and swiftly quarantined and deleted. Thanks everyone.

No problem. You may have to manually set your browsers search and homepages back to normal though.

That was all done last year. I'd fixed the problem visually, it's just there were still files remaining.

Same thing, I never trust any download from t'interweb.
As a general rule, sure, question everything. There are clearly some exceptions. Chances are if enough people like a product, said product is safe to download. From it's original site.

I gave MalwareBytes two looks before installing. Always cautious after I got Conduit on my computer.
