Hi, with the upcoming release of Gran Turismo 5, I was thinking that it's finally time to get my first racing wheel. The wheel will be use almost exclusively for GT5 but I will probably play games like Dirt 2 or Burnout as well.
I have watched all your reviews but I would like you advice on what to get from theses options that I have found. Some are quite expensive and I would like to know if they are worth the money.
These prices are all Canadian so don't be surprised if it's a little more expensive then you are used to and they are also the best prices I found(they all include taxes and shipping).

Driving Force GT : I found this new for 150$ and 70$ refurbished - This is a very good option for me considering the low price of the refurb
Logitech G27 : I found this new for 330$ ( could be more if the sale ends) and 247$ refurbished (could increase to 280$) - This seems to be expensive going over the 300$ mark and even as a refurb that's seems like a lot.
Porche 911 Turbo : Brand new from the retailer it's 265$ - This is the option that seems to be the most appealing to me since it's new and seems to be a very good quality wheel while also having H gear shift and the clutch ( which seems important ).

Well, part of the question is if it's a good idea to buy a refurbished wheel, what wheel would be good for GT5 and is the H gear shift and clutch important.

It would be great if you could answer! Thank you =D
Also Keep In mind that I'm a noob at racing games :sly:

Hey

I think you've answered your own question. ;)

You have questions about a refurbished wheel. Well, don't get one.

Money seems to be an issue, so don't get the G27.

You said positive things about the Fanatec wheel and the price is a little bit higher than a refurbished G27.

The DFGT is out of the question because an H-pattern shifter and clutch is important. Only one wheel left >>> the Fanatec wheel.

Wait untill late June. Wait for Delphic Reason's review on the new Fanatec Carrera wheel >>> https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=112348

I still don't get why people keep making these threads when they already know the answer. If you read through your post, you can see that you have made up your mind but haven't convinced yourself. Have a little more faith in yourself. (No pun intended). ;)

Yes, I think it's worth the wait. It comes with standard Porsche pedals, and a shifter.

You can watch the insidesimracing review if you want.

Got a Driving Force GT 7 months ago. Works perfectly after daily use. Great wheel, great price. If you really want a clutch and H shifter get something else, but if you're going to use paddles or sequential shifter the DFGT is for you.

EDIT: oops I guess you're going with the Carrera, that wheel looks awesome so update us here after you get it with impressions? :D

Well I'm still looking into it ! I'm not sure when the Carrera is coming out and I don't know about it's compatibility.

Taxes in Canada are a killer... 5% then 8% on top of that so 286 becomes with shipping 334$... I can get a Carrera and a stand for that price ! So I will probably get the Carrera and if I realize that there are serious compatibility issues, it will sadly have to be the DFGT or any iteration that comes out of it to support the GT5 release.

I believe someone said, and I think it was Fanatec/Thomas himself, that PD has the Fanatec wheels for testing and making these wheels compatible for GT5.

So I won't worry that much about compatibility. Ater all, the GT3 RS v2 is fully compatible with GT5p and you don't have to reset the date anymore.

I believe Fanatec.../Thomas said that the Carrera wheel will be ready for sale late July. I hope they won't get Sony's and PD's attitude and keep pushing back the date.

I've been somewhat hard on Fanatec, for good reason IMO, but the fact remains that I've always been interested in the Fanatec wheels. If the customer service is up to speed by now and the Carrera wheel isn't too expensive, I might get this one instead of the G27.

I also like the adjustment features of the Fanatec wheels. You can adjust the deadzone, FFB etc... while gaming. You don't have to stop racing, go into the menus and adjust the settings.

Like I mentioned before, wait, it will be worth it.

Glad to see that I helped out.

Ciao

Ciao

About their customer service, I sent them an email asking about the compatibility with PS3 and they answered in a day. Telling me the GT3 is compatible with all game and that the release date for the Carrera is unsure.

I have the g25 for the moment, and will upgrade with gt5.

The fanatec GT3 is my favorite for now, if they (manufactors) don't throw out some new wheels for gt5 between now and then

It looks like a great wheel but I calculated that if I would want a standard shifter and pedals, it would cost 400$ with all the shipping and taxes.

??? Just the wheel?

Because i live in the neighbour country and pay just for the products exclude shipping
319 for the wheel + clup sport pedalsand 50 for the shifter
probably 20 € delivery and ißm to with 400€ (that´s what 500 dollars)

But a great wheel, but as said i wait till nov to see if other wheels hit the market

Well, the wheel is 179$ US
the Pedals ( clutch, gas, break) is 50$
the shifter (six speed and sequential ) is 50$

So all that together is 289 US
that translates to about 300$ Canadian
add a 5% tax and that's 315
another 8 % is about 350 or something...
and then another 25$ for shipping...
that adds up to 375$ Canadian

You should not be getting taxed PST. That only applies if you are purchasing something in your province. When I order from NCIX (BC I think) I don't get charged PST since it is coming from out of province.

Depending on who they ship with and what method they use (express, priority, etc) you might get charged very little for getting it into the country, or you may get charged a lot.
