Need help! Japan and Qualifiying

The game guides I saw did not mention anything about how to qualify. I didn't know you could qualify in the game, and I am always starting in the back of the grid. Also another thing, for the 10 lap race in the Japan Championship at Tsubaka, I can't change the tires to hard because every time I join, it changes them back to "soft" to "conform" with the race. So everytime, near the end of the race, I lose because my cars tires at the end are just done.......I have tried building up the gap and then going into pits, but even with a 13 second gap (plus, no one else seems to have problems with there tires which seems unfair) I can't win the race. I don't have a game manual or anything like that and the game guides on the site dont seem to be helping. Please someone, thanks.

The qualifying isn't called qualifying but practising, that's probably what's fooling you. Works only in championship races. And the tyre thing can be solved too, it sounds like you have hard Racing class tyres on the car but only soft Sports tyres available. Go and buy hard or medium Sports tyres and that part of the problem will be wiped out. The others don't have an unfair advantage, only harder compound that lasts the entire race. 👍

I had that same problem when I first played in that Championship--my advice is to do like my cousin (who once had GT3 on his PS2) did: tune up the car to no end (perhaps 1000+bhp) and then buy the tires. You should have no problem qualifying first. I normally play my Japan championship races in B-Spec mode, since that 10-lap Tsukuba race to me is a nightmare.

There are some pretty cars in this Championship, but with the advice stated above, I'm sure you'll do fine. :D

(also: for the best results, try qualifying with Medium Sports Tires front and back. Handles like an all-rounder top to bottom.)

I would also choose the Skyline (32, 34 GT-R) or Supra--I tried once with an R33 GT-R, but spun out at Suzuka Circuit (also in Race of Red Emblem--one of my favorite events besides Vette! Vette! Vette!). Or if you play in A-Spec mode, that works too. :D

Hope this strategy works... :)
