A few days ago I posted about if it would be OK to give out nice prizes in a tuning contest, and it seems OK. So I would like to start putting this together.

1. I think I would like the winner to be decided by a vote of judges, maybe 7 or 9 judges. So post here if you would like to be 1. I want a wide variety, especially with respected tuners, if possible, as well as mediocre drivers with widely varying tastes. A judge can enter, but not vote on their own car.

2. Prizes would be lifetime GTP subscription or $20 PSN card (USA address only) for the winner. Anyone getting a vote from a judge gets a premium car painted in their choice of DLC paint. Contest would be in multiple stages, first stage for would be for cars from Japan only.

3. I am thinking the PP limit would be 475. I want the cars to be able to win the B-spec 500PP races. I could be talked into a different PP limit. I would like the cars to be anything from the NCD or OCD, with no need to the share the car, just post your tune for everyone to try it out. (There will be special tuning restrictions, that I will spring on everyone much later.) But I am thinking power reduction will be limited to 5%, and now is the time to speak up if that number should be different.

4. Every entrant will tune a different car. So the first question is what is a manageable number of enrants? 20 or so? Tuners will post here that they are interested, then I will randomly choose a draft order for tuners to pick their car before we begin.

5. I may or may not allow fully adjustable transmission as a part. Is it absolutely neccessary to have it at this PP range? (Cat. converter removal will not be allowed, let's be nice to the environment people.)

If you look at the top of the forum you will find the Federation of International Tuners and Test-Drivers thread stickied there. I suggest you read through our F.I.T.T. OP and have a look at some of our archived events and CSLACR's current 400PP Nordschleife Shootout to get ideas on how to structure and run an event on here.:D

As for the use of stock transmission or one of the other types it can have a big impact on both the performance of the cars and what cars are competitive. Along with that will be the choice of test track.

Also when you say no removing the catalytic converter you mean not allowing it to be upgraded to a sports type as the game doesn't allow for you to run straight pipes.

475PP could be a very interesting target depending on what cars are eligable for use. You'll most likely want to ban any race cars, RMed cars, Tuner Cars such as Mines, Spoon, HPA etc. and Concept cars. You may also wish to limit what Drivetrain/s are available.

First of all, thanks for showing some interest in organizing a tuning event here on GTPlanet. Always nice to have people willing to organize events the rest of us can participate in and have fun with. Without people like you willing to do the hard work, the rest of us would be running around punting each other in open lobbies and this would be more like COD4 than GT5
👍
I highly recommend following Desperado's suggestions and doing some reserach into previous F.I.T.T. events. They are extremely well run, well designed, the layouts and technical stuff are well thought out. There's no need to reinvent the wheel when it comes to tuning contests, it's already been invented. I'm sure if you wander over to their thread they'll be happy to help you or perhaps invite you to join if that is your wish.

On top of that, it takes a fairly intimate knowledge of the game and it's vehicles to know what kind of limitations will and won't work in a tuning contest. Certain configurations will lead to a very narrow range of competitive cars, perhaps only one and if you want to avoid this, you need to set it up to do so ahead of time. In my opinion for example, stock transmission is a bad idea, partly because some of them are terrible and also because it's a tunable item and why limit something that can be tuned? Same with the Catalytic Converter. It's a tuner's choice what parts to add or not add to get to the target PP level. Do you take 478PP car and detune it or a 450PP car and upgrade it to 475? The choices at 450 are different than the choices at 480 but both could fit into your contest.

I wouldn't have a problem with certain cars being excluded either, in fact I think that's a great idea. Excluding Elises, NSX's, BMW GT-R's etc, really opens up the field. Again, the boys and girls (yes a girl!!) can help you with that too.

Lots to think about. Trust the F.I.T.T. group and look to them for leadership and direction...that's their objective to begin with and good luck!!
