i hope some one can help me here. i have a computer that i use for the surfing the net, it's an old one i am using windows 98 edition, i have a high speed connection and that's the reason i'm using this old computer. i have a firewall software, e Trust EZ Antivirus, got it for free from road runer high speed. now the main problem is, and i have to say that i restarted the computer with no results, when i click on any of the links that you guys provide they open in a new window. but the problem is that the window stays blank, the address bar stays empty and the page does not open, i tried it with other websites, using the right button click "open in a new window" thing and the same thing happens.

is there a way to solve this problem, by the way i already downloaded all the patches and updates from microsft's web site, because i had some websites overiding my java, after downloading everything came back to normal. and that empty window happened yesterday, way after i downloaded evryhting that i have already mentioned.
thank you for your patience in reading what i have to say. waiting for your response.
P.S. already did disck cleanp up, scan disk, and disk defragmenting.

this is a follow up to what i previousley was looking for, did some reaserch and found this, tried it and the problem was fixed. somebody might need it so here it is:
Here's three things to try: 2 ways to fix the problem:

1-Repair Internet Explorer: Select START\RUN, type MSINFO32 in the 'Open' box and press enter. From the 'TOOLS' menu select 'Internet Explorer Repair Tool'.
Then from the next menu select the repair option.

2-Enter the following command from the START\RUN box and press 'ENTER'. You will be prompted if the command was successful.

regsvr32 Urlmon.dll

Good Luck :D

What firewall are you using because it sounds odd that it won't allow Internet Explorer to work right. There must be a setting which is inanely high.

If the window is not opening, it's a resourcing issue on the PC. Windows 98 is extremely poor at managing its internal resources, and will often run out, especially when running multiple copies of IE, which is extremely resource-hungry.

If the communication were being blocked by the firewall, you would get a "Page cannot be displayed" error from IE, but the window would be OK otherwise.

I suggest an upgrade to Windows 2000 or higher.

I'll second that.

The other responces are standard user fear and missunderstanding of firewalls. Chances are it's not a firewall.

Additionally you may want to disable / uninstall everything you possibly can to regain some resources. Windows 98 was inefficient.

thanks guys for the advice, i guess your right regarding updating the wghole thing, but i guess i will format the hard drive and re-install the program:D actually i have fun everytime i do it. :odd:
