Need Help With Image Editing

Hey guys, wondering if anyone can please help me to remove background colors on logos. Here are the two images I need doing please ?

There is a very good tutorial on how to do this pinned to the top of this subforum you can follow but just not do the last stage of making it avatar sized. If you need editing software GIMP is free to download and works very well .
