Need help with setting up cars for drag!

Basically a few friends of mine drag race alot and they now what their doing like they change their gear ratio, suspension, lsd, and i dunno what else, so really id would highly appreciate if anyone could explain to me what i need to do to get gear ratios set up properly for any car, so really i just need someone to teach me the method, i would really appreciate it if anyone could help.
