So for the last couple months I've had my internet connection hooked directly up to my PS3. Everything worked great, no problems at all. On Monday I got a desktop PC, hooked it all up and everything worked great as well.

Now, this morning I had the PC and the PS3 both turned on. After a while I realized I didn't need the PS3, so I turned it off. About an hour later I turned the PC off and left my apartment to run an errand. When I came back, I turned the PC back on and it wouldn't connect to the internet. After speaking with my service provider, they reset some things on their end, had me reset the PC and then everything worked great again.

A little later I turned it off again, ran some errands and then came back and turned it back on. Same problem. Called them again, they couldn't figure it out and are sending out a technician tomorrow. The PS3 is working great, no issues with it's connection. According to the manual for the modem/router, the amber colored light where the PC is connected means it's getting only 100mb/sec from the connection. The light for the PS3 is green, over 1000mb/sec.

Are they conflicting? Why would it work fine up until today and then start having all these problems? How do I fix it?

Edit: Update - Turned everything off, unplugged everything, reset modem and only plugged in the PC. Wasn't working, so I figured "f-it" and started up the PS3 to update this post. Then....the internet started working on the PC. :odd:

Hopefully it's fixed. I turned off the PS3 again and it's still working ok. I wonder if it's fights over the connection if I turn the PS3 on first...

Does your PC have a Gigabit network card? If not you're only ever going to get 100Mbit.

Some tests to do next time it stops working:

Check to see if you are getting an IP address from DHCP.
Try and ping the Router.
Try and ping the PS3.
Try and ping a website by url
Try and ping a website by IP. (Google's DNS 8.8.8.8 is the one I usually do).

Let me know if you need more detailed instructions.

It still does it from time to time but I can fix it by simply disabling the connection on the PC and then re-connecting. Refreshes the IP address or something. Not too big of an issue.
