Hi guys,

Really close to buying GTS and I’m not concerned about any of the missing offline content or anything that people are moaning about...

I’m simply looking for competitive online gameplay which I’m hoping GTS offers.

What I am struggeling to work out from google and forums though is, what is the purpose?

What is the goal of the online mode? Do you rank up and progress through divisions? Do you simply race for money to buy more cars to race better championships?

If I compare it to somthing like Fifa ultimate team, there is a clear goal. You aim to win games to move up divisions, buy better players and increase your skill.

I can see that increasing your skill is there in GTS but what about the progression side of things? How does it work?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

At the moment yeah sport mode is pretty much have competitive races online for money, mileage and xp. Not read too much about the FIA championships though so someone else could perhaps update you on this.

I'd definitely get it. Best GT for a while in my opinion!

Sport mode in theory will be pretty competitive with the rating system. You'll eventually get to race with people that should be right around your skill level so you aren't chasing aliens or dodging idiots...eventually. The FIA championships are slated to begin next week so I'm sure more info will be available soon for those. Right now they appear to be a once weekly kind of thing, probably open for one day to "progress".

Besides sport mode there are still regular ol' lobbies where users can create their own races for leagues and such.

I haven't messed with it a whole lot yet but it sounds like there's a "level up" component to upgrading and tuning, so it's not like previous GTs where you drop money on parts to get faster. You get "mileage points" from doing events and then spend those points to increase the power/weight reduction limits to be able to fit different categories.

You can definitely race your garage cars online, either in lobbies or sport mode. Right now sport mode has 3 races per week (I heard it's recently gone daily?); 1 of those is usually a set car given to you to drive like in license tests of old and the other two are group based using whatever you have that qualifies. Lobbies are obviously a toss up and we'll need to see how the FIA races shake out as to whether they provide cars or use garage cars. I suspect you will be able to use garage cars but power levels may be locked or more strict on what qualifies for the race.

Yeah, in the game there is a level up system which gives you various unlocks in terms of tracks, racing suits etc. Also there is the whole buying/being gifted new cars which is also fun because you can customize these and bring them to online races to show off.
But the main progression routes come from increasing your skill as a driver really, that is generally the direction that they seem to be going with in this game with the loss of GT mode etc. And that may seem boring to people not hugely into racing games atm but the way you get pitted against drivers of a similar skill level creating such close races, it really gets you hooked on the feeling of battling with other drivers and being able to really hold your own against them. This feeling then drives you to increase your skill to perform even better to beat everyone else on track!
And at least for me i dont think ill ever get bored of that because you will always be in close races due the the great matchmaking system incorporating driver ratings and sportsmanship ratings.

Basically this game is definitely worth a buy!!
